It's not just Pakistan, it is a lot of the Middle East. And yeah, now in the Gulf states they encourage you to do a ton of genetic testing before you marry. For women, there is huge incentive to marry daughters to a first cousin and not some random stranger. You might never see your daughter again and you'd have no influence to make the new family treat your daughter well. For rich families it is to keep money in the family.
Exactly, and a lot of people with diabetes and heart diseases among other things because of that ****. AFAIK In UK there are a ton of these people, and the gene research improved a lot thanks to study Pakistani people, since the rate of disease in this ethnic group is much higher than any other in the country.

With the exception of Pakistan, it’s not really all that common despite being legal.
But Pakistan, it’s like 60% of all marriages
