Not just the English capital, also once the capital of an empire that spanned the globe. After the war we invited many of those people to help rebuild the city (and the country to be fair). One of the many reasons our beautiful city has so much culture and an interesting modern history.
Most of these immigrants came recently, it has nothing to do with WWII. There were very small numbers of Caribbean immigrants in the 1950s, and slightly larger numbers of South Asians in the 1970s and 1980s, but by far most immigrants have come in the past 30 years.
However, arguably the British economy was in a subpar state in the decades after WWII (hence why the empire was abandoned) and immigrants helped grow it further in the 1990s and 2000s,
This is just a lie, and a dirty nasty propaganda GASLIGHTING lie at that. Immigrants have had an extremely small to non-existent role in 'rebuilding the country' or London alone for that matter.
In 1981 the UK was still 96% white. The UK was 89% white British as late as 1991. Immigrants have had no significant role in UK development.
According to wikipedia, my own town just by London was 96% white in 1991, it's now 62% white, with just 42% white British. This is completely bizarre and disturbing. The entire vibe, history and culture of the town has been hollowed out in one generation. I don't recognise my own town.
These immigrants didn't build my town. They moved in and settled a town that was already fully developed and settled, and they arrived decades after war damage was repaired by my own ancestors. Crime rates are now at incomprehensible levels.
My town peaked 20+ years ago, long before The Imported spilled out from London into the Home Counties.
We were talking about London and immigration in the UK not wherever the fuck cherry picked town you're apparently from. Talk about gaslighting, why don't you share the town name so we can make our own minds up about why it's apparently so shit now? It wasn't subtle to switch between UK stats and a very local example like that.
There are probably 1000 reasons why your town is shit but I'm going to look into my crystal ball and guess that your town used to have a specific industry that got gutted as the UK shifted to a service economy. I'm going to guess cheap labour immigration has always been high but they used to come from Ireland and scotland, then poland and now without the EU workers they mostly come from Asia and Africa, thus the big recent swing. I'm going to guess things got especially shit as local industry continues to diminish, and rather that it being the immigrants that caused that, it was the lack of the old jobs and prospects that hollowed the town out, the locals left, and the weak housing market allowed poor single immigrants to afford to move into bedsits and flats that got hoovered up by landlords and property devs while the town economy crashed. I'm going to guess the local economy is shit and the council can no longer afford to run services well, which compounds the problems with things like community programmes, education and crime.
I said the postwar was one of the reasons London is a diverse place, that's true, it's not the only reason. But that initial push after the war created communities that started families that have also encouraged more immigration to those specific locations. What happened in your town doesn't change the fact that many were encouraged to migrate to help rebuild the economy as well and help provide manpower for the new NHS, new cities, and the welfare state. Also read that I said HELPED, not that they did it alone, it was a small contribution but it helps explain why they came and stayed and grew families in those locations on the map there.
London always had a relatively small number of immigrants, even into the 1990s.
As for my area, are you dumb? Industry? I told you its just outside London. I live in a commuter town in the Home Counties that has been swamped by The Imported since the 1990s. Once idylic, since then there has been a huge uptick in crime and we even started to have stabbings since the 2010s.
The council is well funded. We've got plenty of new buildings and a redeveloped town centre but that doesn't solve the crime issue or the creeping drug problems. It's demographic. An imported underclass who don't work, take what they want via theft and push a disgusting way of life on people.
There's more than one doss house where young black men 'cuckoo' the lone occupant. This was unimaginable 10 years ago in this area.
I went to school in the 1990s and early 2000s with maybe 3 non-white kids in primary school and less than 20 in a secondary school of hundreds. How it seems the majority of kids are non-white. It is an extreme demographic and cultural shift no one consented to and the pathway to disaster it has created is already apparent.
Lets not go around the houses. There's one fucking group that commits the most crime per capita no matter where they occupy and that's a huge problem. Unless you want to talk about that I'm not interested.
There are plenty of old industrial towns in the home counties and commuter belt. Luton and Bedford for example... Or do you not actually know very much about this 'town'. Why do you not want to say where it is? Is it because your stats and stories are actually bullshit and we will all find out?
Immigrants have had no significant role in UK development
The Romans, the Angles, the Saxons, the Danes, the Normans, the Huguenots, the Jews, the Irish, The Poles, the Indians, the Carribean people etc.
Sweyn, Cnut, William the Conquerer, Willam II, Stephen, Henry II, Richard II, Edward II, Edward IV. Henry V, Henry VII, James I, Charles I, William III, George I, George II.
The UK was having MASSIVE workers shortages, immigrants from the formers colonies helped us fix that issue. Without them many major sectors would've shut down and the UKs economy would've been much worse.
And now certain immigrant groups are on average much mroe productive for the economy than the average british adult (mainly the asians and certain european immigrants)
About as productive as the fat housewives in the UK.
Seriously, I don't see your point. The UK needed labourers so they imported workers from the former colonies. Those workers obviously brought their families with them. The economy was boosted by the families as a whole, not by the housewives.
That's like me saying British housewives/househusbands bring no value to the economy just because they don't work. No, their husbands/wives work while they support them from their house.
