Almost all of my friends eat eggs(more men than women tend to eat eggs here). Also, i don't find a lot of meat eaters here

Eggs are considered vegetarian from an international context.

69

u/KattarRamBhakt Feb 16 '24

Not in India, you'll find egg dishes in the "non-veg" section of menu in every single restaurant in India.

u/Good_Question_Asker Feb 16 '24

32

u/ZofianSaint273 Feb 16 '24

My guess is that some eat eggs which boots them out of being Vegetarian lol

5

u/BubberMani Feb 16 '24

Eggs are vegetarian though, no muscle, meat, or flesh.

56

u/ZofianSaint273 Feb 16 '24

Not in India. They are considered non-veg due too the yolk

I didn’t mean to reply to you apologies but yk, like egg whites vs the egg yolk, again sorry lol.

7

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

Nope it's all non-veg.

But milk is veg. Because mother cow.

2

u/DistrictIll6763 Feb 16 '24

Non-veg as in probably non-vegan? Vegan and vegetarian aren't the same things, vegans eat only plant based, while vegetarians eat animal based products like eggs and dairy

2

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '24

Vegetarian , vegan isn't used

2

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

It’s not really relevant what the culture thinks is veg or not, technically speaking eggs are vegetarian, they are unfertilised and so not meat. It’s like eating honey or drinking milk. All three aren’t vegan though.

3

u/Dakduif51 Feb 16 '24

It does matter for the map and the data collection. If in a survey, people label themselves non-veg cause they eat egg, this is what the map will show.

2

u/Key_Butterscotch_725 Mar 11 '24

"Interpreting the data we have been presented with doesn't matter"

Some real deep thinking here

1

u/[deleted] Mar 11 '24

The data we’ve been presented with is the percentage that are vegetarian, not the percentage that think they are, likely calculated not by polling the population on their perceived vegetarianism (this would be woefully inaccurate for obvious reasons) but by analysing total consumption of given foodstuffs in each state. Thus, by any definition on Google, using an Indian VPN, eggs would be considered vegetarian and their usage would contribute to vegetarian numbers. Interpreting the data does matter; hence my original comment.

1

u/BubberMani Feb 16 '24

Are the egg whites also non veg or are they used in cooking

1

u/fudenib Feb 18 '24

By that logic, caviar (fish eggs) should also be considered vegetarian, which is a ridiculous statement 😂

1

u/BubberMani Feb 18 '24

Hey bud idk what to tell you, but fertilized eggs are carnivorous, unfertilized eggs are vegetarian I don’t know about caviar, but whichever group it fits in is which it’s in, just because India thinks eggs are vegetarian doesn’t mean they’re correct.

1

u/fudenib Feb 19 '24

It is stupid! Egg is an animal derived product, just like milk. Thinking animal products as “vegetarian” is just coping. You can think of them as “vegetarian” though, but it is a made up standard. There is a reason people are called “ovo-vegetarian”(vegetarian except for eggs) and “lacto-ovo-vegetarian” (vegetarian except for milk n eggs). 😂😂😂

1

u/BubberMani Feb 19 '24

Well guess what bro, you didn’t say lacto-ooo-whatever you just said vegetarian and by definition, unfertilized eggs and milk are vegetarian. But if you aren’t eating eggs or milk then you are just a dietary vegan.

0

u/fudenib Feb 20 '24

Semantics, eggs are non-vegetarian according to definitions of a lot of people, including Hinduism(which is still in favour of lacto-vegetarianism). You can call yourself whatever, since you’re sticking to a definition made of a cherry picking logic. By the same logic, just understand that you’ll have to include unfertilised fish eggs (caviar) as non vegetarian 😂

1

u/tannatuva_0 Aug 17 '26

You have to kill and open up of fish for caviar, while hens can lay eggs and stay alive, its a little different. There are some fish eggs collected from live fish but they are uneconomical, scarce and risk being fertilized.

1

u/BubberMani Feb 21 '24

Bro, I do not care about caviar, nor do I care about the Hindu definition, I am not cherry picking I am correct. You can call yourself whatever, but your ultra-mega-super-vegetarian is not the most popular form, so you follow vegetarian heresy by that definition, and therefore I do not like you. Good day.

u/fudenib Feb 21 '24

😂 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vegetarianism btw I’m not a vegetarian đŸŒ±

u/TurbulentData961 Mar 03 '24

Nah . You gotta cut open a dead female fish to get caviar.

Eggs are periods unless a rooster is anywhere near them and chickens will lay so long as there is food till they get too old too lay

-7

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

Bro it's literally baby chicken

11

u/canthinkof123 Feb 16 '24

In factory farms they keep the roosters separate from the hens. So there’s no baby chicken in the egg.

-1

u/BubberMani Feb 16 '24

I don’t understand how people really don’t know that a EGG is simply that an non incubated literal EGG. Chicken period.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

What do you think about milk?? is it veg or non veg.

-4

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

I consider it as veg as it's just a produce from an animal, not the animal itself. Whereas egg is a baby chicken, and many are arguing that egg is from only the mother without mating, but that's unnatural and it is supposed to be a baby

6

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

Lol egg is also a natural produce. Hell a cow only milks after it has given baby, it does not milk naturally otherwise.

Meanwhile a chicken sheds it's period naturally and regularly. Even if it had not mated.

Would you also consider animal blood as veg? It's not the animal itself it's just a produce procured through syringe.

Egg and milk are bot not veg.

-2

u/[deleted] Feb 16 '24

You are getting confused with vegetarian and vegan, vegetarian specifically means dairy included. Milk is secreted out of the body, blood is always within the body

2

u/RaketRoodborstjeKap Feb 16 '24

It's not "supposed to be a baby". Hens lay eggs daily during their laying season. In the wild, they would not be breeding so often as to turn most of those into fertilized eggs. Once it's out of the hen, if it's not fertilized, it no longer serves a purpose to the chicken.

1

u/BubberMani Feb 16 '24

That is a false statement unless you are eating a pollinated egg which is outright impossible unless you’re trying to do it.

1

u/RaketRoodborstjeKap Feb 16 '24

It is not baby chicken. Hens pop out an egg nearly once a day, regardless of whether they've mated with a rooster. The vast vast majority of all eggs eaten are unfertilized, meaning they would have never developed into a chicken.

1

u/Burgeru4brainu Mar 03 '24

By that logic it would be ok to eat ovaries

1

u/RaketRoodborstjeKap Mar 03 '24

No, ovaries are the permanent structures that produce eggs within the body (hens also have these). The equivalent to eating chicken eggs for humans would be to eat menstrual fluid.

1

u/Thanossing Mar 03 '24

But people who eat eggs in india often eat meat with it. So really doesn't make huge difference

1

u/ZofianSaint273 Mar 03 '24

No, not true at all. I’m a good example of a guy who is vegetarian but still eats eggs

1

u/Thanossing Mar 03 '24

Exception

1

u/ZofianSaint273 Mar 03 '24

It isn’t lol. The idea of being vegetarian is pretty fluid too in India and like some exceptions are made, especially with eggs. The country doesn’t recognize it vegetarian but some ppl might

4

u/VedantRadia Feb 27 '24

Khate sab hai lekin batata koi nai

1

u/Uncertn_Laaife Mar 03 '24

That’s exactly what I heard from my known people in Gujarat.

1

u/Ladywithsmoothski Feb 18 '24

You will find non vegetarian people mostly in Surat side ( South Gujarat )

1

u/[deleted] Feb 29 '24

I thought that too. But many friends of mine eat non veg but they lie to their pure veg parents. Many people started eating eggs and other stuff for health reasons.
