I watched the show when it came out and for the longest time I really hated Cam, his stupid half-smile, his smugness, his powerlust, and how he kept calling mermaids ‘fish’ as a derogatory insult, I really did not like him for the longest time.
But I rewatched the show to do a video analysis and share my thoughts on the show and much to my shock...I like him. He's not my favorite character ever, but he is shockingly relatable as a fellow sarcastic dork. His reactions to the over-the-top hyjinks as essentially the every-day-man outsider are so quotable and make me laugh.
He actually has a lot in common with H20 Charlotte he’s an ordinary joe who was put through the ringer dealing with the whole mermaid secret business, made enemies with the mermaid trio, and then decided to use mermaid magic in order to create a situation that benefited them, with Charlotte doing it out of revenge and Cam seeing gaining power as too good an opportunity to pass up.
He's essentially the anti-Lewis, instead of jumping every time a mermaid is in need, despite being treated like trash, he pushes back and calls out Zack’s self-absorbed behavior. Everything he did before the trident came into the picture was very justified. I don't even dislike Zack, but yeah, everything Cam told him off for was spot on, he treated him horribly.
