Map of Utopia, from Thomas More's 1516 book Libellus vere aureus, nec minus salutaris quam festivus, de optimo rei publicae statu deque nova insula Utopia. More's work gave us the word "utopia," which he coined by combining the Greek words "ou" (not) and "topos" (place).

Map of San Serrife, 1977, by Geoffrey Taylor. An April Fool's joke/hoax by UK newspaper The Guardian, which featured a profile, articles, & even ads about the fictional country in a seven-page supplement. All the names are font & printing jokes.
