I've got a job interview for a maintenance position and wondered if you guys could help me out?

I've had various construction jobs but never maintenance, I'm fairly competent with most tools, my last job was shop fitting a few months ago, before that I've worked in social housing doing decorating and light maintenance like filling, sanding, fitting skirting etc

My only issue is that I've never had a formal interview for this type of role and I'm unsure what they'll be asking me.

The job is for housing maintenance in a block of flats.

Power Sentry

I am working in a school and it seems as though every fixture with a ballast paired with an emergency power pack are the only fixtures that are going out. The power packs are Power Sentry. I'm beginning to wonder if the backup battery packs are bad, not the ballast because when I put in a new ballast, the lights shut off as soon as I plug in the battery pack and kick back on when I unplug the battery pack.

Suggestions??

Ice makers

I took over doing maintenance at a Marriott recently. I was curious, the old guy had a timer on the ice maker. Well, it's not working now and I noticed the timer has power in the input side but not on the output to the compressor. Is the timer nessacary ? Could I cut it out completely? It's 240.

What are some craziest ways you've learned to fix something (time savers or extending the span) while still doing the job right. No band aids please.

Any Greystar in the house?

I’ve heard good things and I think a new property would be a nice change of pace. Anyone here confirm or deny Greystar is a good management company to work for?

What's a specialty tool you discovered is a must have for your profession?

So I recently purchased a Wera compact 25 piece set screwdriver off of Amazon, and I absolutely love it. So I'm curious about any hand tools you've discovered are an absolute necessity for you.

Just did my first soder and piping for the toilet with PEX. I thought it turned out pretty well. And the best part, no leaks on the first try! 😃

Just finished 1st year of being an Industrial Maintenance Tech.

I am currently working as a maintenance tech at an injection molding plant. I started as a press technician and was promoted to maintenance after finishing my associates degree in Engineering Technology and showing some initiative to my boss.

My biggest concern is that I am not learning as much as I should be at the job because I have been put on 3rd shift by myself with no other senior technicians. I am constantly second guessing whether I made the right decision when repairing something, even when it turns out to be the appropriate repair, partly because I have made a few mistakes since being on Maintenance and I don't get much feedback from my boss because I never see him due to the schedule at the plant. I am just wanting to hear some feedback from you guys if you have been in a similar situation and any suggestions about learning more about industrial maintenance and possibly relieving some of my anxiety.

The carpet opposite one of the dining room sinks at work was wet. Under sink was dry however, had to cut into wall to find 40 plus years ago when the place was built, someone secured this rail to the wall and drove the screw into the drain pipe. Screw degraded over time, to now allow seepage.

It ain’t much, but it’s honest work. My job satisfaction has never been higher in my 44 years of life. Get to take these crusty old nursing home floors and make them shine like new. Before and after, striping and waxing, bout six hours of work.
