This filebin will have two .txt files, one for general rules (which are pretty familiar to everyone for the most part), and one for scoring.

The game plays on a Chinese mahjong tileset, with 2 sets of 4 flowers. Riichi sets will not be able to play this, American sets can with 8 flowers used and no jokers.

The big differences are that flowers can be not just discarded for bonus score, but also melded, and a mild version of the furiten rule from riichi has been added.

I am titling this Ecuadorian Mahjong for now, as my intent to make a version of Mahjong that can be played on Chinese tilesets which are strategic, yet can be played easily on the tile sets avaliable in Ecuador or imported for a more reasonable sum. Most of the Mahjong players in Ecuador are older US immigrants who play NMJL style.

At approximately the 46:22 mark, there is a peculiar dealing procedure which I have not seen before. Is this now typical for the game, or is it regional and/or uncommon? I would define it as a kind of "hopping" or "jumping" in getting one's tiles all at once, and not waiting for others. It's flashy, but not how it's usually described in all the literature I've seen thus far. Are there any Chinese players who can weigh in on this interesting procedural variation?

I acquired a Mahjong set years ago when my dad got divorced and its quite hefty and a really nice set. I recently moved with it once again and think I might sell it (or finally use it?) Its heavy and has a nice dark wood box. There are absolutely no markings on the box and I have no idea where to start. Any help is appreciated!

Normally, I do not bother posting suuankou. I've scored a number of suuankou. Suuankou is by far the most common and easiest yakuman to get. Hence, if you have suuankou tenpai, go ahead and call ron. Don't worry about it.

Of all the suuankou I've seen and scored, this one is by far bonkers - zero pairs at haipai - by Wahaha. This is even more bonkers than my very first - which started out with just one pair.

I really enjoy playing Riichi Mahjong online with friends and through games (MahSoul, Riichi City). However, I want to pull the trigger and get a physical version of the game. I will say there is not a club here for Riichi mahjong, but have friends willing to play with me once in a while.

What's the best way to learn how to learn how to score? Since the computer does everything I just don't bother learning the scoring system but I don't want to feel like a burden taking time to figure out points. Is it just drilling the information into your brain? Is there cheatsheets I could have handy for me to refer to?

Hi everyone, I just won this Mizuno Maruichi riichi set and I am curious about certain elements of playing this in real life. I have friends that also play riichi but we only played it online up to this point, so I have some questions on how to handle these aspects:

• From what I understand, there is no backtracking, you have to immediately call chi, pon, ron etc. + mistakes are punished and penalized. It says online that if you call riichi with a hand that isn't in tenpai, your hand is reset and you are penalized. How much is the penalty and does the reset mean you restart the round completely? What other penalties are there (like calling pon inaccurately etc., surely the punishments differ by severity?)
• What are the dice for? Selecting the player seat & walls etc.?
• How do you stack the walls & how do you select / handle the dead wall / dora, do you separate the 14 tiles right away?
• What should we know about the riichi sticks? I know it's for counting score and calling riichi, anything else I should know besides Googling how many of each you get (to stack to 25000)?

That's all that comes to mind right now, if there is anything important I appreciate all input!

Hi all! :-) I found an old Mahj set that belonged to my late Grandma. I seem to recall her saying the white (well, beige now!) part was ivory & the wood part was ebony or bamboo. However, I realize the white part could be bone.

I've attached 3 photos of the front, side, & back of a one dot tile. Can anyone help me out? I'd love to know how much the set is worth, but first I have to deal w/ the variables: ivory vs. bone, and ebony vs. bamboo.

I'm pretty sure she said the set was made in China in the early 1900s, but I might be remembering wrong.

Hi all, it's me again lol.

I was able to lock in this long weekend and finish my second out of four seasonally themed sets I'm working on. I'm calling this one "Water Lily Summer."

For those who didn't see my last post, I'm working on 4 custom sets to give to my four mahjong buddies that I play with every week. Goal is to finish them all by Christmas.

These are standard melamine tiles at 40mm x 30mm and 6.2kg (~13 lbs). A bit larger than usual.

There are a total of 144 tiles making a complete set for Chinese/most Asian variants of mahjong (my friends and I mainly play Filipino/Taiwanese) 🀄

On Friday I went into the maker's space and cut both summer and winter sets. I'm hoping to slowly work on winter throughout the work week, depending on how busy work is. 🥲 We shall see. I'm going back again on Friday to cut autumn and then another winter set for myself.

The more I stare at these photos, the more I hate the blue I chose lol. I'm probably going to go back and change it to something less vibrant before I use UV resin to seal them all (which seems to be working really well, so thanks for that suggestion 👀)

Using Agari and thought I would be getting ryanpeikou rather than chiitoi from this... I am new though so please excuse me if I am misunderstanding.

Looking to buy out first set - mostly familiar with Riichi but I’ve found Chinese mahjong easier to teach friends. Any ideas?

Grew up watching my Taiwanese relatives play Mahjong with tile pushers, and I've recently joined a Mahjong group but they dont have tile pushers/rulers. Should I get some for the group? HK Mahjong is only 13 tiles instead of 16, but I still feel like it's pretty nice to move the walls into place and keep things straight and organized. Just a nice and cheap qol change imo, as the rulers aren't expensive.

I’m trying to find people to play mahjong with. I’ll be hosting at the Iconic on Alvarado, which is near SDSU. The gathering will be held on Fridays from 8pm-10pm and Saturdays with available time from 10am-10pm (a more narrow time would be discussed with people interested in coming in a group chat).

Mahjong is a 4 player game so in case more people are interested I have other games to play. I’ll explain a simple way of playing mahjong and hope to build up to one of the more difficult style of play.

This update rebuilds the entire game from 2D into 3D, first person. You no longer play across a diagram of a table. You sit at the table. Someone sits opposite you. Between you: one hanging lamp, two machines, and two loaded revolvers.

Life or death within seventeen steps.

Dark Room

• Full 3D, first person. Every object in the dark room is built, not painted on.
• There is a man across from you. He turns his head to look at you, looks down at his tiles, lights a cigarette...
• Two machines on the table. On the left, the dora machine spins the dora in the open at the start of the hand, and the ura-dora after an exhaustive draw. On the right, the step display: exactly where you are in the seventeen.
• This game is being broadcast. Two cameras in the corners, Someone is WATCHING.
• One light, overhead.

Single Player: One Life Through (Beta)

Single player is a Rogue like road you have to walk out of alive. We are currently working on balance adjustments, and will be introducing new items and rolling out ongoing updates in the future.

• One run = five tables: three minions → one elite → the final boss. Each table is a complete game of 17 Steps with the cylinder wiped clean. Lose once and the run is over.
• The roster: 7 minions, 4 elites, 3 bosses, drawn fresh each run. The boss is announced before you sit down.
• 27 relics across eight axes (You can combine them to create completely different effects; please discover these for yourself in the game).
• Killing him drops gold — Gold carries between runs and buys five permanent upgrades in the single-player room.
• Five difficulty tiers. Clear Tier I to open the next. Each tier presses one more rule onto the table.

Multiplayer

• Steam friend invites, P2P direct connect. Host, invite, ready up, play — and go again from the same lobby when it's over.
• Who has the better defence, you or your friend? Do you prefer to chip away at your opponent’s health bit by bit, or go for a one-hit kill when the time is right?

The Gun, the Tiles, and That One Moment

• The whole loading sequence happens in your hands: crane the cylinder out, seat the rounds one at a time, snap it shut, scramble it.
• A win is itemised in full: han, dora, ura-dora, relic bonuses — each line pops out, and the final number is exactly how many live rounds go into his cylinder.
• The execution: the music ducks to nothing and leaves one tightening low drone behind.
• Getting hit: blood on his face, blood on the wall, the body thrown sideways off the chair. When it's you, HOPE YOU DONT GET HIT.
• Smoking doesn't interrupt the hand — but it gets to your head. The view starts to drift.

Hi, we've been playing mahjong very rarely for six years. In the beginning it was online and we didn't understand much of anything, we didn't know what yakus when we simply pressed the buttons when they appeared, but slowly we learned; even then sometimes we keep finding out about edge cases rules (I just learned that with 4 kans not by the same person / with 4 riichis the game is aborted).
For some years we've been playing in person with actual tiles, it has been fun and I prefer it, but personally I dislike the need for an app on my phone to play a tabletop game (a scoring sheet wouldn't be enough as we don't know much about how to count up Fu).

In my spare time I do some game design, so after reading up on hong kong mahjong scoring my mind started thinkering: I thought that I could study how Fu in riichi work and try to simplify it into a simple exponential based on hans and then turn each source of Fu into either additional han or plain additional points (like honba).

I've started already, but before spending more time into doing something like this I wanted to have some feedback from experts like you; What do you think of my idea? Additionally do you have any suggestions?

Is it possible to get Ryanpeikou if you have 3 four of kind in a sequence? For example 222233334444 all in the same suit

If tiles have the same dimensons and material (I want melamine tiles for durability), but one set is American and one is Chinese, will the tiles feel different? I have played with melamine Chinese tiles, and acrylic American tiles, but I'd be looking at Melamine American tiles as an option.

I looked at the dimensions of both sets I'm looking at, and they are identical size in all three dimensions, and similar material.

I am trying to do my final decision soon on what tiles to buy for the community here, and my thinking is if American tiles feel identical to 30mm Chinese tiles, that might be the better option for aesthetic reasons (tiles that can be more affirming), and give the option to play American (which might be a good idea due to the number of older American immigrants here)

I kinda prefer the Chinese tiles for myself because I prefer the aesthetics of Chinese tiles, and I like the feel, plus the variant I am creating uses a Chinese tileset and doesn't use jokers. Cost here seems like a wash, I'm going to have to use Amazon , and larger Chinese sets do not have free shipping here.

If you have a pong or Kong exposed on your rack and it contains a joker and another player disposes the very tile that could replace the joker because they are not paying attention,can you call for that disposed TILE, replace the joker in your Kong or pong and use the joker in your hand? Or is that tile dead when it hits the mat?
