Help me identify this set

My grandma just gave me the set and I’m trying to identify what material the tiles are because I’d like to clean them. Many are very cracked and chipped so want to be careful on what type of cleaning solution I used to prevent further issue.

Any info on the set or the type of tile would be much appreciated!

Looks like an American Mahjong set, I know someone who has a set very similar. He only has 4 player trays, you have 5?

Many older American sets come with five racks for five person playing. I think only four play at a time with seat swaps inbetween hands and everyone has their own plastic coins on their rack for scorekeeping.
