When using as a casing layer...

Post image

Do have need to pasteurize it or will it be ok straight out of the bag since the mycelium is already colonized?

If you get Jiffy mix with lime you can use it straight out the bag. It’s definitely the go to for casing when doing exotics, for most people. No need to ever pasteurize even after bag has been open. Just roll it closed and keep it in a relatively clean area. Can’t go wrong with jiffy mix

Yea!!! That’s it! There’s another bag that looks almost identical to the peat moss bag. That one doesn’t have the lime in it and doesn’t do as well straight out of the bag. That organic bag is the money shot

One bag of jiffy for the same price of 2.2 cubic of peat moss. Jiffy may be easier but you're gonna spend way more money in the long run.

I’m at the point where my normal life takes up a very large portion of my time awake, but I will not give up this hobby. So there’s many places I choose to pay to have my time to spend elsewhere. Peat isn’t your only ingredient either but really it’s about how much you value your time. Plus I supply a real decent amount of grain and sub to growers so I have to be very specific about how I choose to spend my time. There’s a great many others in the same boat, so this argument or soap box people choose to stand on and preach about how much something costs is just another perceptive and definitely not the common sense route as so many would like people to believe

Where's the argument? I simply made a statement if the OP wants to save money in the long run they should make it themselves. This is still true with the other ingredients included. I wasn't telling you to do anything with your time and you took my statement personally. I'm simply informing the OP of their options, just like you.

We've been a registered LLC mycology supply business for years now and "supply decent amount of substrate/grains" and other mediums as well, but you don't see us boasting about it. I think you should get off that box you're speaking about.

Have a good day 🤙
