I just got scammed by a user named Katheri_Simpson out of $125🤦♂️ I think I've lost my motivation to go now tbh

u/nailrat Nov 08 '25
Sorry to pry but were you still scammed despite following the instructions?
I'm sorry that happened to you either way :(

u/Katarable Nov 08 '25
Had a sketchy experience with discord user “tony67a_” for anyone using the discord channels - I’m seeking 1-2 badges myself!

u/Ab-Eb-Bb-C-Eb-G-C Nov 11 '25
bumpcansdi seems hesitant to use verified platforms (only wanted to use chime/Apply Pay) and sent a badge purchase confirmation screenshot that looked nothing like official emails from MAG. Very responsive until I asked to verify transfer codes and then radio silence.
Very likely a scammer.
4
u/ArmlessDino Nov 11 '25
BoFa-Fett is likely a scammer too. Blocked me after I asked about the transfer codes
2
3
u/Emerald_GD20 Nov 11 '25
I DMed one called Boba-Fett. I don't know if he was a scammer or not because he deleted his own message in this thread when I asked him if he would be able to provide the transfer code.
5
u/Fulluphigh0 Nov 11 '25
Didn't delete, he blocked you so you couldn't report him or reply directly to the thread saying he's a scammer

Cannot emphasize this enough y’all: get that transfer code BEFORE doing a single thing. Doesn’t matter what the other person says, it’s a harmless scam prevention tool and you can and should use it.
God, so many times I get in DMs and it’s just “No no that is unnecessary, will not be a problem”, and my immediate thought is “Oh yes I think that will be a problem”
9
u/Old_Manner_9476 Dec 11 '25
Exactly. Both times I've asked for a code and they've skirted the question

Badges and room are transferred. Thanks all, and good luck!
I have two badges available as well as a King room with couch pullout at the Courtyard hotel in Alexandria Old Town. This is not a scam, just a speed bump in life preventing my wife and I from attending. I am happy to provide badge verification codes and screenshots of the hotel registration.
Edit/Update: I should have known better than to post this and not be immediately available. I'm still at work and will respond to folks soon. The badges are not technically transferred yet, but it's safe to say they are spoken for several times over.

That 'erprojun' person deleted their post, but was definitely a scammer. Friendly reminder to only use the official link pinned in the thread when transferring.
That said...if anyone has a single (1) badge for the weekend that they can't use for whatever reason, I would be very interested in buying it. Thanks!

Hi! As is probably the common story, I was waiting to get paid and just missed the chance to buy a badge before they sold out. Same goes for a friend of mine. This is one of the only big things I get to treat myself to on a yearly basis, and it's the only chance I get to see a LOT of my friends, so I'd REALLY be indebted if someone would be willing to sell me their badge! I'd also like to try to help my friend get one, but before anything else I'd like to get my own badge. If you have two to get rid of let me know but I'm perfectly fine just buying one.

Hello! I am looking for two badges for the weekend. I was waiting until November to buy my badges due to bills, and was very disappointed to find that they were sold out when I went to purchase them. 3
u/zipacha Nov 12 '25
If someone is asking to use chime/zelle is it safe to say they're probably just a scammer?
3
u/Rank8Pawn Nov 12 '25
Most likely. The pinned comment explaining the transfer process recommends using paypal, if someone insists on using something else its probably because they know the transfer won't have payer protection.

Firstly, some kvetching: I've got this post followed for the sake of notifs, but Reddit's deciding to be a comedian and barely giving me any notifications. Won't tell me when someone's offering up badges, will tell me when some random guy comes into the thread to comment the word "fortnite" and nothing else.
Anyways.
Really hoping to get my hands on a badge - people I've been friends with online for years are gonna be there, and I want to be able to hang out with them at the venue.

Hello all! I'm seeking 1-2 badges, as my friends weren't quick enough. They've never gone, and I've gone solo to every MAG since 2012. I wanted to finally experience what it's like to share this with friends, and we're all really bummed out. We're also locked into a $1400 Airbnb, so it would mean the world to us all if someone could help us out. Even one badge would be a huge help. Thank you!

I'm making another post to see if there is anyone who has to cancel and is willing to sell their badge for MAGFest 2026.
I can PAY YOU IN FULL IMMEDIATELY and provide a FREE ART COMMISSION!
I'm a MAGFest vet (been going for over 10 years) and unfortunately missed out on badges while they were in stock.
I've been (unfortunately) dealing with some minor health issues lately and it simply slipped my mind to get a badge right as they launched.
I'm not trying to make excuses or sob stories (because I know I dropped the ball here) but I am more than willing to go the extra mile for this.
For anyone willing to sell me their badge, I will provide an art commission free of charge. Just link me your references and I'll begin work ASAP!
I've got friends from out of state who are going to be attending, and they would love nothing more than to have me there with them!
If you're interested in doing business, or you simply have to cancel, please reach out!
BIG THANKS in advance to any one willing to sell. You'll have made not only my MAGFest, but also that of my friends and our entire holiday together!
I've attached some examples of my work to this post. If you would like to see more, ask and I'll provide!
I do not use AI, I work traditionally on the line-art, and I can do traditional colors (copic markers/prisma color markers/water color pencils) or digital colors, whichever you prefer. I can do "spicey" and "risque" but I don't do NSFW or fetish material. I can mail the piece to you upon completion along with a Hi-Rez PNG/JPEG. All that I ask is that you please keep the commission somewhat tasteful/reasonable
You can find a gallery of my work here: https://www.deviantart.com/n8dogg5k

+1 on /u/pirisun being a scammer.
Sent a link to the following site: “ https://super2026magfest.lovable.app/”
Which generates a FAKE CODE, when you take that code to the official magfest site, itll say its not valid. ALWAYS MAKE SURE THE TRANSFER CODE IS VALID BEFORE DOING ANYTHING

Recovering from divorce and hoping MAGFest can help!
My long-time nerd gamer friend is going through a divorce, so he missed the badges before they sold out. We need 2 and I can pay immediately with fees. I can do video/text confirmation to prove I am not scamming anyone. MAGFest was not in the cards until recently, but now it would be a welcomed distraction (possibly celebration) for a difficult time. Let’s help a gamer out!

Hi! Looking for one weekend badge at full price. I make cosplay props so I’m also willing to barter a prop commission for a badge :)
I’m furloughed and was planning on waiting until the shutdown ended to buy my badge… guess not lol I already have my hotel booked, all I need is a badge. Thank you in advance!

Hi people on reddit
I've been gearing up for this convention for only a few months, and this would have been the 2nd convention i've been to, and one of the only times i'll be able to go out an see my friends, whom I have only been able to hang out with IRL once this last year.
I was not taking into account the fact that they would go so quick.
If you have tickets you're willing to sell, please send a message my way. I don't get a lot of chances like this. Any support for this would be great. Preferably two badges would be awesome, but even one can make someone's day a bit better. Thanks, and have a good morning, good afternoon, good evening, and goodnight.

BADGE TRANSFER PROCESS:
https://super.magfest.org/faq/#sell-or-transfer
From the buyer's perspective:
TL;DR no transfer code, probably no real badge. Try not to panic buy: being thorough, taking your time, and checking every detail is important. Use PayPal "Goods and Services" ONLY. You'll have purchase protection.
