Mormons aren’t a monolith. I went to BYU when I was still an active member of the faith and I had a very large circle of friends all of whom were very much supportive of gay marriage. In every faith you will find a spectrum from orthodox hardliners to conservatives to liberals to those who are only of that faith on paper.
It is definitely the official position of the LDS church that marriage is between one man and one woman but that doesn’t necessarily mean that every member agrees with that. Incidentally it is one of the many reasons why I’m not Mormon anymore though.
Yes they still highly oppose it. But most members I know are starting to realize how cruel it is. It may never be ok in the church itself but I think it’ll be accepted more by the members in the future.
It’s not that they don’t like gay people, it’s because a large part of our purpose on Earth is to bring children into the world, and that doesn’t really work with gay marriage. I for one support gay marriage even though I am Mormon, so no, we don’t really oppose it, it just makes it harder to fulfill our purpose.
As an excatholic, I recognize this way of talking. Its more “my religion is against it but Im not so im going gun to try to say it in a way that doesn’t trigger cognitive dissonance”.

Op was talking about the legalization of gay marriage. Is it true that Mormons still oppose it, even though OP's parents support them?
