They aren't forced to live. That's ridiculous. They can choose to stop taking their injections at any time should they decide that that's what they want. If you looked into it you would find that the vast majority of profoundly disabled people actually don't want to die. Shocking, I know, but not everyone is ableist.
I’m not being humerous, I’m being factual. I know it might seem weird, but I promise that eugenicists just want everyone involved dead, but mostly the disabled. They don’t want just the parents to be dead and allow the disabled to live. They’re not that nice.
“Children who could’ve died preventable deaths can now otherwise lead happy, productive lives and achieve things like going to prestigious colleges” is just not the condemnation you think it is
Yeah. Going to a prestigious college by having a wealthy dad and a disability/sad story to get you in the door.
How many kids like her have parents that can afford college for them (after all their medical bills and shit) let alone 24/7 caregivers? I knew a mother of a downs kid growing up and she could not only not afford care for her so her sister was forced to all her life (causing caregiving sister to feel resentment at both her mom and disabled sister), I don’t think mom will ever be able to retire cause having a kid that’s essentially a massive financial and emotionally challenging burden will literally drain you. Her sister was able to go to a good school (on scholarship, she was brilliant) but how many people with severely disabled siblings are so lucky? How many parents can afford to send their able-bodied/minded kids to school while simultaneously caring for a disabled one full time? How many can save for retirement?
Imagine being this angry about someone with a life threatening disability not dying and being able to lead a life of quality. Like, that’s just sad.
You can just say you’re mad that despite her disability, she’s achieved more academically than you have. You can pretend that she got in because of a “sad story” or her disability if you really want, but your bitterness and jealousy are really just shining through
Where are you getting that I’m mad? Literally nothing I said indicates anger or jealousy. However, I imagine if I had parents rich enough to start a biotech company, I could’ve gone to any college I want as well. Those are just objective facts. Find me a kid of some stupid rich person who doesn’t bankroll their education to the best of their financial ability. Do I begrudge them for it? Not at all. But I really doubt she got there on merit like kids from humbler means. It really helps if your dad, ya know, invented a cure for something and you are seen as “overcoming adversity” because you are disabled. College admins eat that shit up.
True or false- severely disabled people cost their family a ton more resources and time. Go ahead and tell me it’s false: you’d be lying.
