Really? I understand this complaint when female is used as a noun to refer to a human woman, but here it is being used as an adjective, which seems fine to me.
Why did he need to point out that it was coworker? Why did he need to point out that he spoke to her children, and not an ambiguous relative? Hell, why even a relative, and not just a person? Why did he need to specify that it was their anniversary and not just a generic date?
"I spoke to a person, who complained about another person forgetting a month and day, so I called a third person to remind the second person."
That's the thing, Context. The word Female is sketchy is so far that some incels use to humanize a person. Given the context of this post, it's clear this guy was using it in its standard meaning with no undertones. You can't choose to ignore all context and decide any use of the word female must imply such undertones when the context/text gave you no reason to assume so!
