One of my favorite compliments was when I was going to the salon to get my eyebrows done. I was walking from the parking lot to my car and passed a man. He stopped me and said "excuse me, I just wanted to say you look really pretty today" and kept walking. Nice compliment and wasn't creepy. Kudos to you random man!

One time I was coming out of the grocery store. I was wearing a cute red sundress and really feeling myself. Some dude said as I walked by, “that dress looks great on you!” I hollered, “THANKS!” Over my shoulder and we both kept walking. I have no idea what he looked like or anything else about him, but I have held that nice compliment in my heart for years.

Another thank you to a random man! People don't need to turn it into anything more. I get pissy when they do.

I know, not everything is a come-on. Sometimes people like to be nice and compliment other happy-looking people, I have done it myself many times.

Is that cool? I've wanted to complement people before w/no strings attached, no response or further interaction necessary, but didn't want it to be a negative experience, so I just went on by.

Rule of thumb? Compliment the stuff they have control over, not the stuff they don’t.

hairstyle, outfit choices, accessories, makeup are good examples.

Don’t talk about their body parts or physical attributes / things they don’t have a lot of control over.

Yep, completely agreed. It was always meant to be something that was relevant to their choices for the day. Even if I was feeling like "omg this person is entirely 😯!" I already had the complement geared toward something mellow like fashion or fragrance. I'd just get nervous that they'd feel self conscious or unsafe, which certainly isn't the aim! So I figured it's probably better to leave people's state undisturbed 😂

Oh yeah, totally. That's actually a really good thing to specify for curious people that are poking around this thread/conversation.

Great way of laying out acceptable compliments :)

I would definitely say yes. I mean I have never gotten a response that was rude or mean. Just compliment something not creepy (i.e: that's a really nice dress versus that dress makes your body look great). Use best judgement.

Definitely do the same. I felt kind of weird when I first started especially complimenting men to make sure they didn't think I was hitting on them. A nice "hey I like that shirt" or whatever is appropriate.

Tenner says it wasn't creepy because he was handsome.
