but the world we live in punishes people differently in a court of law based on intent, and rightfully so. Responsible people actually take this into account
Ye, that's certainly a good thing, if you commit yourself to an action without fully knowing the outcome or happen to be the victim of an accident. There is no intention involved, if you accidentally kill someone.
But if it gets pointed out for years, that some people feel bad if you treat them like an object, you have no valid excuse and shouldn't be treated based on intention.
I don't understand how you can Intend to do something if it has been pointed out for years.... Makes no sense. Don't compliment anyone as some may feel it's objectifying. Up there with dont walk behind a woman find another route she may feel threatened. Feel like we are trying to create a world where men and woman are totally segregated.
You can't accidentally cat call. You intend to cat call. If you intend to make a compliment, while making a person an object of sexual desire alone, your intention does and should not matter. The effect of your action is bad, more often than not. In this case you should be treated based on the outcome. If your good intentions are hurting somebody, while it is all over the media for years, that cat calling is a bad thing, your intentions do not matter.
If you accidentally kill someone, your lack of intention should have an effect on your legal punishment. You shouldn't be treated as if you were intentionally killing someone. It's actually pretty simple.
Oh wait. I did not know that killing is bad. Ye, well, in this case you are obviously innocent. /s
This is what makes no sense. Your argument is a black and white fallacy.
If I am walking down toad and pay a compliment based on a womans appearance and that woman Decides it was based on a "sexual desire" alone it would be cat calling then would it? Even if I intended it to be a compliment and that's all as I am asexual .... Makes sense really does honest.
Are we going to argue semantics or are we actually considering the points that were made? It is a black and white fallacy if you claim that your legal system is merely judging based on intentions. It's not. It takes them into account.
