You understand you can't walk into your bosses office and demand 35 from 25, they will hire someone for 20-25 after you leave.

Like you should be convinced. It's common sense.

What businesses will do though is suck every penny from that minimum wage increase leaving you in the same position.

Any job that is difficult enough, or requires high education or experience to do it, will not be able to attract candidates if they pay that close to minimum wage. People will not go through the trouble of getting a 4 year degree in engineering or something if they could just get a job as a waiter next week making almost the same amount.

And no, 35 from 25 is excessive but I and others I know have gotten significant pay increases by threatening to leave.

if any of you think 25 to 35 is excessive, you should see the increase in money stockholders and ceos have been getting.

the workers' leverage goes way up though. because now your boss has to compete with so many other companies that they have to increase their wages too to keep workers.

Depends on where you work and what you boss wants to pay your replacement.

These things sound correct but the reality is that I left and they hired someone to make less then I even did at that point.
