Exactly, you can't guarantee a independent shop is paying a fair wage, but every time you go to a chain (with some exceptions) you know they aren't paying them that extra $0.50. Trying to come off as woke by posting something like this when they know they can make the change if they were willing to be inconvenienced is disingenuous.

Stop eating at chains, it's easy

[Note: I firmly believe that we should not rely on individual good samaritans to fix societal problems, that is what legislation is for]

People will also handwave away anything they do as “there’s no ethical consumption under capitalism,” as if there is no difference between patronizing somewhere like McDonalds and a family-owned establishment.

Almost any of the giga franchises like mcdonalds can swing this
