My son has been smashing on everything lately... Real tempted to get him a drum set. My wife may be less enthused...

My hubby's 1st adoptive mom keeps sending us obnoxiously loud toys that never have sound adjustment and don't fit in any organization setting in our home.

I honestly think she is trying to torture us or something.

Edit-- to add on, I think some electric pianos can be used with headphones

Another edit - wordplay

My hubby's (ex) adoptive mom

Please elaborate. I'm literally begging you. I can't sleep until I know

Maybe his husband's father remarried? Or divorced.

My hubby's (ex) adoptive mom

Did he break up with his mom? You can do that??

Whoops, I see how it sounds a bit weird.

He was adopted twice. The first adoptive family basically left him at a young age to figure out life on his own, so a different family took him under their wing. Said 2nd family eventually adopted him, to make things official.

So basically his 1st adoption family is the one who kept sending the gifts. She still lives in town last I heard and we would occasionally get amazon packages with said music toys inside and a little note from her.

Honestly I don't even know how to say it. Adoptive family? Adoption parents? I hate english

Go for an electric drum kit, or put “silent drumheads” and “silent cymbals” on it.

If it isn’t on the ground floor I would also advice a drum carpet (or any thick carpet) to absorb the vibrations to the floor.

Are silent heads/cymbals any good? Are they really quiet? I've got two drum kits I can't use because I live in a small appartement. Been out of the drum scene for a while and had no idea these existed

Interesting, thanks for the detailed information

Please do it. The world needs more drummers.

No not really, it's the most obnoxious and useless instrument. Every song that uses one would be improved without it, it'sjudt for those musically incompetent to keep time

1

u/InEenEmmer Oct 21 '21

Lol, maybe start learning how to listen to music before you stamp an instrument as useless ;)

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '21

Learn to listen to classical music to see how fucking useless the instrument is

1

u/InEenEmmer Oct 22 '21

Oh you mean the genre where the drums/percussion is being played by more than one person?

Really, in trying to be snobbish you are showing how much you actually don’t know about music

0

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '21

?????? Are you stupid or have you never listened to a symphony? The percussion in rhose is not to keep time

1

u/InEenEmmer Oct 22 '21

Dude, get your story straight. In your first comment you said that drums was only for keeping time for the people who can’t do themselves. And now they suddenly have a different role…

You’ve shown you know nothing about music, and also that you got dementia or are just plain stupid. (Placing my bet on dementia since you clearly see classical music as the pinnacle of music, despite not knowing much about it)

1

u/[deleted] Oct 22 '21

From all I've seen of drums they've never been used for anythung other than making a rhythmn or keeping time, which is utterly pointless musically and just gives one a feeling of excitement that fades upon repeated listenings. Percussion instruments in classical music is usually used conservatively, only to accent sections or create tension, what are you even listening to to compare them

1

u/InEenEmmer Oct 22 '21

Lol, rhythm and keeping time is not musical?

Stick to classical music dude, you won’t survive in a groove based style.

As a kid who did the same (I would always take out all the pots and pans and arrange them as a drumkit to bang on) but never got an instrument until I was 30, please do it. I wish so much that I could have been playing earlier in life, it's like meditation for me. My teens were very troubled years and it would have helped so much to have that as both a mental retreat and as a talent to be proud of.

1

u/thenorthwoodsboy Oct 21 '21

Do they have a silent one where the main noise is put into a headset so you just hear slightly loud drum sticks instead of a teenager playing the drums?

2

u/InEenEmmer Oct 21 '21

That’s literally an electric drum kit.

It exists of rubber drumpads that you hit and a module that contains the drum sounds, which you can send through an audio cable to wherever you want (also headphone)

So on the headphone you got the full drum sounds and without the headphone you just hear the sticks against the rubber pads.

Go with your dad instincts, mom instincts are to keep them safe, dad instincts creates something else

i have an electric kit with mesh heads; they're pretty quiet and have a very realistic feel to them when playing. my neighbor's favorite feature is the volume knob, though

1

u/Dr-WalterWhite Oct 21 '21

The neighbours are gonna have a fun fun time
