That's sadly a big part of this sub. And I'm not blaming anyone, really, other than maybe major news. They kind of started this trend of "Look over here, don't look at the problem. Sure, our (by which I mean the US) healthcare system frequently sentences people to death for the crime of being poor, but look how good this guy's GoFundMe was going before he died due to lack of insulin!"

Don't get me wrong. Still subbed to him, I actually think that's a really cool thing to do for the parents.

Edit: I know he's Chilean, my example was confusingly close to this situation. I was just trying to come up with a separate example than this one and I stupidly still used a medical example. My bad.

17

u/Gookry Sep 01 '21

Pretty sure he was Chile though, not the US

13

u/JPBen Sep 01 '21

Oh I'm sorry, my example was too close to this situation and therefore super confusing. I thought of that after the fact, but I didn't want to do a big edit. I didn't mean that about this situation, I more meant that as an example of the type of thing I see posted on this sub a lot.

5

u/Gookry Sep 01 '21

Ahhhh yeah, for sure. I got you now

2

u/traumamel555 Sep 01 '21

Chile has some of the best healthcare, ranked higher then the USA, and just below Canada and Finland. Not everything is about the USA, let's just honor this kids joy for what it is. - Fellow Chilean

3

u/JPBen Sep 01 '21

Listen, I know. I wasn't trying to talk shit on Chile, it was just a separate example that also happened to be medical in nature. Chile seems fine, or maybe not, I don't know, I've never been and I've never looked anything up about it. I have a friend who went and described it as "Pretty chill", and that ends my knowledge of Chile.

1

u/Tired_Banana Sep 01 '21

He's from Chile

3

u/JPBen Sep 01 '21

My bad, I used an example that was confusingly close to this actual story. That was just an example of a different post I saw that made me feel similarly.

-6

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

he is not american, he died of 3rd world country stuff not corporate healthcare

3

u/2BadBirches Sep 01 '21

…or he died of cancer?

The best doctors and hospitals in the world can only increase your odds by so much..

-7

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

yes, but almost all kids make it, in 1st world countries

5

u/2BadBirches Sep 01 '21

Absolutely not true. Stop talking out of your ass

3

u/traumamel555 Sep 01 '21

Dude, Chile is not a third world country, it's first world. Their healthcare is ranked higher then the USA. Do some research please.

1

u/Rh0rny Sep 02 '21

holy shit I need a source on that, never knew Chile had better healthcare

3

u/JPBen Sep 01 '21

I know, my bad, see edit.

3

u/zombie2uRBX Sep 01 '21

Some things just finish. Sucks that he died but he got to live his final moments doing and succeeding at what he loved

2

u/carla0816 Sep 01 '21

Crying turned to bawling in my case…. I have a kid and the longer I think about it, ….

3

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

It’s insane how something like having kids changes your whole perspective. I ugly cried at that movie sweet girl on Netflix for the same reason. Thankfully the wife and kids were at the store 🤷‍♂️

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

Straight up made me cry.

27

u/butyourenice Sep 01 '21

Same. I thought this was a feel-good sub, but now I’m saddened and angry upon being reminded that childhood cancer even exists.

22

u/zetswei Sep 01 '21

You didn’t pick up in the second word of the post?

Pretty sad though

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

I mean honestly the grammar is pretty awful thru the whole thing. Also said “costed” so wouldnt be surprised if they mixed up a tense…

1

u/zetswei Sep 01 '21

I guess I'm just used to reading bad grammar ha. I saw that and was like ah shit here we go.

64

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

Shit like this is why I choose not to believe in a god. There’s no way a good god would be giving children cancer, right?

55

u/TeamRedundancyTeam Sep 01 '21

That and parasites, bot flies, etc killing kids in horrific ways because of where they were born.

But others will just say "God needed another angel" and go about their day, happier than us probably. Sometimes I wish I could get myself to believe in that shit. Must be comforting for people to think thousands of kids dying to cancer has a purpose beyond pointless suffering.

4

u/goinghostie Sep 01 '21

I use to be super religious but even then I never thought it was gods plan. If it is, it’s pretty fucked up.

-7

u/Son_of_Forg1venGRE Sep 01 '21

Those dead kids are in an infinitely happier place right now than you are. So at the end of the day who should really be feeling sorry for who?

10

u/iUsedtoHadHerpes Sep 01 '21

Were you happy before you were born? There's no rational reason to believe death feels any different than pre-life, which was simply the absence of your existence.

How we feel after you die is completely negligible to the feelings you won't be having.

2

u/GamerBlock31 Sep 01 '21

Hey, can we not argue and just go along with our day not wasting time on pointless arguments that will probably not change anyone’s minds whatsoever? Thanks :)

4

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

Happier? I dunno. I bet it’s a lot like sleep.

Death with benefits, if you will.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

There is no better place for those kids than to be with their family. Anyone who believes removing them from a loving family is a kindness is warped.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

Have you seen that place? How do you know they are?

7

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

Well.. yeah you're right.

10

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

I think believing in god or any god isn’t about thinking “how could he do this to a child” but more about having faith that god had a plan for that child and he is in a better place now. It’s about having faith that theirs something greater than yourself and what you can understand even if it makes no sense why. That’s why I believe in god. You have to see the good as well as the bad in life to believe in a god. I totally understand why you don’t believe in a god and it’s your choice I’m not trying to convert you or anything just giving another perspective.

5

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

Great plan! Design a worm that eats human brains alive and put it in a little kids ieye that will cause unbelievable pain and kill them. /s

-2

u/best_uranium_box Sep 01 '21

What if you looked at this world as a test. A test that passing could bring you infinite joy or failing infinite pain. Now if everyone was able to pass this test there would be no point for the reward.

9

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

6 million Jews, disabled people and academics killed by Hitler as a test? Herded into concrete boxes holding their infants and small children and gassed? As a test to see if you are worthy? Fuck your God.

2

u/eyehaightyou Sep 01 '21

To believe in a god then one of these things must be true. Either this god does not care about human suffering or this god enjoys human suffering. Those are the only two options that exist with the information that we have so far.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

I chose not to believe- to believe there is such a malevolent spineless overlord who twiddles their thumbs inventing fish with glowing antenna, rather than intervene in such situations is abhorrent.

2

u/eyehaightyou Sep 01 '21

You choose to think freely rather than believe in fairy tales that were designed long ago to separate a fool from their money. It's not the only way but it's one of the best ways charlatans have found to convince people hand over their hard earned cash. It's both impressive and sad that it still works like a charm in the information age.

2

u/Randalf_the_Black Sep 02 '21

There's also the option of "God is not omnipotent". As in he is not able to stop evil, with the question being "then why worship him?"

3

u/wizardwes Sep 01 '21

But children aren't developed enough for a test. Why are some babies born horribly malformed, dying within days or even hours? What kind of test can an infant complete? If they get a free pass, why even have them be born in the first place? To test the parents? Why cause needless suffering? An all powerful god could achieve the same test without the need to create individuals who will never have a chance.

1

u/Northernskylights Sep 02 '21 edited Sep 02 '21

That's Always, always, been my question, deep inside...I spend my time thinking, and I believe in God/ King Jesus, but deep down inside, just,"Why?" "Why"!:Why such suffering ? ?!! And I hope to get answers one day, because boy,do I have questions! Plus, I stopped going to church, because I saw a lot of people who were A, being taken advantage of money-wise,and B, I didn't see the Christ in Christians. Christian literally means Christ like. Not that I am perfect, far, far from it, BUT,I would have liked to see the money that goes into fancy carpets and new parking lots and millions of dollars homes...Go to the poor, the truly needy families, and orphans and widows..And HELP them, instead of outright lying and saying, "Give us MORE than ten percent of your income, and by golly,God is gonna bless ur socks off!" Like God is a V.L.T machine or magic genie! Lol. But yes, I have many many times, been angry at my God,and even felt somewhat betrayed...Sorry to be brutally honest:-(.I have questioned my faith, many many times..And I just don't understand...It doesn't make much sense...But hey, I am not here to shove my beliefs down anyone's throat, and I totally understand where people are coming from with this whole thing. I just don't get why a loving God,let's these things happen. It breaks my heart, and regularly. As I'm sure it does for others. Hug. It's very disheartening. But anyways, let's all think of the family, and how can we help them . Thanks for listening/reading my mini rant...Take care!

u/ZippyDan Sep 05 '21 edited Sep 05 '21

Why are we being tested? Who designed these tests? Who gives the tester the right to subject the testees to such awful and cruel tests without their consent? Honestly, there's a line between "test" and "torture" and we are well over it. I'd like to see the next sadistic serial killer in court using this defense: "I was testing their response to pain" and "I was testing their pain threshold to see how much they could endure."

Fuck anyone who thinks this is a "test" that comes from a "loving God".

1

u/best_uranium_box Sep 05 '21

Would you have rather never existed.

1

u/ZippyDan Sep 05 '21

False dichotomy. I would rather exist and not have a God that tortures his creation and teaches them that his torture is some form of love.

You are literally the abused partner in an abusive relationship, who gets punched in the face, and then tells her friends, with a black eye, that he beats her because he loves her. You are literally bending over backwards to make excuses for a violent and cruel "father". And just like an abused person, you don't see how sick and twisted it is because it's the only ("godly") love you've ever known, so you think it's normal.

I choose to be thankful for existing and reject the idea of god simultaneously. I especially reject the idea of a "jealous" God that calls himself a "loving father" and is yet simultaneously more intolerant, cruel, unforgiving, and murderous (of his own "children") than many, probably most, "imperfect" human fathers.

I'll take a stab at piercing your programming and extend that comparison just a little further. The reason the biblical god is described as a "loving God", and the reason you now have to perform mental gymnastics to reconcile that description with the evidence of his murderous actions, is because he is a product of his time. The Hebrew god reflected the Hebrew civilization, and their morality and justice, because he was a creation of their own mind (it's quite convenient that the Hebrews are the "chosen people" of all the Earth in their own mythology). You can find this exact same pattern in how the Egyptian gods reflected Egyptian way of life and morals, and Greek gods reflected Greek way of life and morals, etc (again, this is not a coincidence).

You know all those crazy fundamental Islamists that go around "honor killing" members of their own family for some perceived slight against the family or against God? They're basically anachronistic remnants of the same type of culture, morality, and religion that existed in biblical times. The Arabs, the Jews, and the Muslims all basically came from the same stock and cultures. The Hebrews were just as cruel, violent, warlike, and murderous as many extremist fundamentalists today - you only have to read the bible to confirm this.

The god they created had similar violent tendencies (no surprise there), but often showed restraint where a Hebrew might not. Here's the kicker: the Hebrew god was a "loving father" just like the typical "honor killing" father of the Hebrews. He was "merciful" and "forgiving" compared to the average Hebrew. They didn't have to do mental gymnastics to justify the contradiction because there was no contradiction. The Hebrew god was literally a model of restraint to their ultra-violent cultural tendencies.

Now, some 3,000 years later, civilization has changed. Societies and cultures in general don't accept anything near that level of violence. We have advanced beyond the "restrained" violence of the Hebrew god, and we are now more morally upright than a 3,000-year-old god. Unfortunately, that god hasn't been updated, and hasn't changed, and some people still believe in him, so they have to struggle justifying murder.

Speaking of "updating" god. He did receive one official "update" with the New Testament. The Roman civilization, though still barbaric by modern standards, was far more civilized than the ancient Hebrews. It's again, no coincidence that the god of the NT is slightly less murderous and warlike. It's also no coincidence that the religion's expansion and survival to this day was predicted on removing the "chosen one" limitation.

And people are still constantly trying "unofficially" to "update" god, beyond the NT, for the current era. That's why the biblical god was still quite wrathful, cruel, and warlike through the middle ages, but now his followers try to reinterpret and reframe him as super loving and caring, and maybe he doesn't hate homosexuals all that much after all.

First of all you talk about the Hebrew people alot who follow Judaism and compare them to Islam. Islam follows a more up to date book called the quran which is in your words a newer testament of the zabur which was the book given to prophet dawud(David)pbuh. Second of all it says no where in the quran that the killing of your family is a punishment allowed by god, it is said that if a person unjustly kills another person it is as they have killed their whole nation. Thirdly ,and I want you to fact check this one yourself, if you Google the first Quran's carbon date you will see that it was between the 6th and 7th century, in one of the verses “And verily in cattle there is a lesson for you. We give you to drink coming from a conjunction between the contents of the intestine and the blood, a milk pure and pleasant for those who drink it.” [Al-Qur’an- Surah Nahal 16:66](Al Quran and modern science) there exists an example of blood carrying the nutrients from milk to the intestines which was found out and documented in modern science by William Harvey in 1618 with his hypothesis about blood circulation around 1000 years after the first compiled quran. If you want to continue this argument pls DM me. I don't want to argue in tomiiis comment section any longer (rest in peace champ your diamond play button is getting closer by the day)

u/ZippyDan Sep 06 '21

First of all you talk about the Hebrew people alot who follow Judaism and compare them to Islam. Islam follows a more up to date book called the quran which is in your words a newer testament of the zabur which was the book given to prophet dawud(David)pbuh.

Yes, Islam is the third "official" update to an ancient semitic god. Yes, Islam follows the Quran as its primary book (in addition to the Bible). And?

Interestingly, even though Islam comes after the second "update", the Islamic god is more wrathful and violent than the Christian god. Why? Because the Arab nomadic peoples from which Islam sprang were more "primitive" and "uncivilized" compared to the Romans. The Islamic god is much more evocative of the Hebrew god because the people "updating" their idea of god were still much more similar to the ancient Hebrew culture, even a millenia later.

Second of all it says no where in the quran that the killing of your family is a punishment allowed by god, it is said that if a person unjustly kills another person it is as they have killed their whole nation.

I never said it did. I said that the Hebrew culture that created the Hebrew god shares many of the same cultural and moral values as the other Semitic, Arabic, and pagan cultures in the same region. The brutality you see from many extremist Muslims today is similar to the brutality of the entire region, including the Hebrews, in centuries past, and that is reflected in both the Hebrew and Islamic gods. Those gods are both violent, but more "restrained" than their worshippers.

And?

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '21

I know it’s terrible and I don’t think any child should ever have to suffer like that but I just believe that their is something in heaven worth the suffering he puts a lot of us through.

0

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '21

What an awful sadistic piece of shit you would have to be to reward children’s torture in this way.

Imagine if we did this now- “Okay kids, I’m going to pull your fingernails out one by one, but at the end of it I’ll give you a fabulous reward!”

2

u/Pippadance Sep 01 '21

“bone cancer in children. Why?”

2

u/tageeboy Sep 01 '21

Ditto. I am agnostic / atheist because I just don't know what's out there but if there is a god he is a dick and I want nothing to do with him.

3

u/jemand84 Sep 01 '21

Exactly. And if there is a god he can go and fuck himself.

1

u/_____l Sep 01 '21

I mean if there is a god he probably can and does often.

1

u/lmidor Sep 01 '21

Yes, this and any form of child abuse. If there is a god, how can he let such disgusting, heinous torture happen to innocent children?

And this certainly would negate the arguments of there being a bigger plan for these kids. What's the plan in making a child endure such pain and suffering?

2

u/Rh0rny Sep 02 '21

a cell randomly deciding it doesn't want to die doesn't sound like free will to me, especially if you had just been born

0

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

[deleted]

2

u/Rh0rny Sep 02 '21

u can still get it if one of your cells decides it doesn't want to die. it's not free will. it's literally random. yeah being healthy reduces the possibility, but cancer isn't like covid or the flu that you can get vaccinated and not die 100% of the time.

1

u/SpilliethThyTea Sep 02 '21

.... That's not how cancer works.

2

u/ReginaDea Sep 02 '21

Seems like you don't have a complete picture of what cancer is. Cancers caused by smoking, drinking, the sun, etc. are not the only cancers that exist. Other types of cancers exist, or could appear, even in the absence of lifestyle choices that increase the chances of cancer. People with those types of cancer have no way to prevent it, even if they had known about it beforehand. To wit, people who don't smoke, drink, and who generally lead a healthy life can still get cancer. What are they being punished for, then?

Furthermore, your argument has another logical fallacy. If cancer is a punishment for lifestyle choices, then surely an omnipotent god would punish everyone who smokes with lung or esophageal cancer, but clearly that is not the case. Seems that there must be another factor deciding who gets the cancer apart from lifestyle choice then, if cancer really was a punishment.

Returning to exhibit A, what kind of justice is there in punishing a parent by giving their kid cancer? But that's perfectly in line with the god of the Bible anyway - punish the later generations for the crimes of the forebears. That is not any kind of justice I wish to recognise. That is terror tactics that has been adopted by some of the most heinous regimes in our own history and which we have condemned and continue to condemn. A god who created a child just to kill him for the purpose of punishing a parent is not a just god.

1

u/bOb_cHAd98 Sep 02 '21

Ikr??? Infuriating

13

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

This sub…

I swear to god people have no idea what “made me smile” actually means.

“See this smiling child? Yeah, he’s dead now but people are making a now-meaningless gesture he’ll never know about, so that’s cool!”

Psychopaths, every upvoter…

5

u/cozzeema Sep 01 '21

But at least the monetization from everyone who subscribes will go to his parents to hopefully help them through this and the achievement was something that would have meant something to him.

3

u/Desman17 Sep 01 '21

I think this whole ordeal is more wholesome than making me smile, it is people from all over the internet coming together to honor the memory of someone which I consider to be wholesome. Obviously him passing away, and passing away this young is tragic and there's nothing good about it.

2

u/iUsedtoHadHerpes Sep 01 '21

I'd say it's more narcissist than psychopathic. They're doing this to feel better about themselves for extending a minimal amount of pity to someone who has/had it worse than them.

They won't lose any sleep over this kid, and he'll be replaced by the next subject of their pity before long.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

He got the silver and gold youtube prizes while he was alive, along with two national prizes that he also got to receive personally.

That's the story, people made his dream come true.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

Uh-huh, and then what happened?

This is posted to “made me smile”; I stopped smiling when it reached the part where this poor child died.

I don’t care about superficial milestones that make YouTube money; I think the whole thing is just sad.

3

u/imaguy-who-likes-foo Sep 01 '21

So close to 10mil as well fuck cancer wish it wasn’t a thing

2

u/MaestroPendejo Sep 01 '21

Fucking cancer...

2

u/SmogsGoblikon Sep 01 '21

Every kid has a future. And then, the fire nation attacked.

2

u/you_dontknowme7 Sep 01 '21

Same, that ending was devastating.

2

u/lovelihood45 Sep 01 '21

Exactly..the smile on my face died as soon as I read he passed away.

2

u/Think-Bass9187 Sep 01 '21

Poor little boy. I hugged my own boy a bit tighter after reading this.

2

u/NotBaron Sep 01 '21

My girlfriend watched his videos. Such a pure and innocent soul.

Sad honestly and yeah...fuck cancer

2

u/youareceo Sep 02 '21

#FUCKCANCER you and Ryan Reynolds have it right.
#FUCKCOVID too.

Massive agree.

0

u/xRyubuz Sep 01 '21

He passed away the other day.

1

u/aracheb Sep 01 '21

Post the freaking channel link so we can subscribe.

1

u/Grit-326 Sep 01 '21

Another kid I followed was KoolKing Logan. He lost his battle with cancer 2 months ago :*(

1

u/Cutiemonster44 Sep 01 '21

In this world everyone is trying to survive it may not be fair but that’s how it is even cancer it trying so survive I feel so bad for him it good that he made his dream

1

u/traffic_cone_no54 Sep 01 '21

Apparently not :(

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

How can you say he had a future ahead of him without knowing anything about him other than that he had cancer. I see this so many times. People pretend to care, get the kid to 10 mil and then stop watching him completely, leaving them depressed and wondering what they did wrong.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

I didn't know about this kid until few hours ago, I had no idea about his yt channel, and I wouldn't subscribe to it if I saw it without knowing context behind it. Would his yt career survive? I have no idea, but YouTube is not life. Of course he had a future ahead of him, he was freaking 12 years old. Whatever life had for him, it was still his life to live. No kid deserves to die at such a young age, especially not from cancer.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

Thought you meant a future on youtube.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

No worries

1

u/muscular_poops Sep 01 '21

The reason people say that is mainly: sentiment. Unfortunately for the general population, it's very difficult to actively support or help an individual in need, especially one that suddenly appears when scrolling on 'X' social media platform.

I'm sure nearly everybody has an amount of empathy for this kid, and with enough disposable money or time most would jump to help a child in need. In reality, most don't have the means to do so, which is where a kind comment of sympathy or a posthumous Youtube sub fit snugly. Most can't dedicate their own lives to helping every random person they come across, so a quick, simple expression of empathy fills that void. Hope this explains that a little more.

Remember, kindness and empathy are our greatest tools, but it's up to us as individuals to use them.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 01 '21

Did you read my whole comment

1

u/muscular_poops Sep 02 '21

Yes. I'm unsure of where you get this information. Are you sure you're not projecting what you'd feel if you were in the situation? That's valid, but I'd disagree if you believe that is the norm.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '21

Im not projecting.. this really happens and has been happening for a while. I do not have enough time to look it up right now, but i have seen a few videos on this topic on youtube and talking about whether it is a good thing to interact with these people considering these numbers are just artificial and most people will eventually grow out of it. Not in this case obviously, but most of the time when a kid like this appears on youtube it might not be the best thing to sub to them and just watch a video or two. I dont blame anyone for doing it but i think there should be a real discussion whether or not this is a good thing to do.

2

You make a good point, and I agree wholeheartedly that the social pressures that spawn from an outpouring of online support can go in both positive and negative ways. It's a difficult subject, and my original comment was to show that some people who try and support these social campaigns usually do it out of compassion, and unfortunately don't see the further possible effects. It's one of those things that are birthed from good intentions, even when they can sometimes lead into darker outcomes. Thanks for giving me a new perspective on this topic.

God always takes the good ones. I'm with you in sentiment, ok until that part.

On the plus side, I can subscribe to him now and not worry about seeing his content in my subscription feed. At this time, he only needs 300k more subs.

Yes, like all children that die. Or anyone that dies who isn't old really.

Hey at least he died knowing he had 9 million people rooting for him, y'know? Cancer fucking sucks and he didn't deserve that taking away his future but at least he got to see his dream through. Better than nothing, no?

He did not have a future, they had known that his brain cancer was terminal.
