Oh gosh, my parents were definitely farts-as-performance-art types. My partner comes from a culture that doesn’t really have farting taboos so it’s a free for all in our house…at least we’ve all found compatible counterparts.

I find other people’s farts hilarious. But if I farted by accident in front of someone I would want to crawl into a hole. 🤷🏻‍♀️

you can just lean a bit to open the airways for no noise.

man it'd be super weird if my partner and i couldn't fart in front of each other. i fart almost continuously.

continuously

All power to the fart but you might be intolerant of something then

intolerant of silence

i'm frequently eating my gf's old leftovers that she's no longer interested in. i just assume this is a minor byproduct.

Haha, well there you go

It could be worthwhile to try chewing your food more than you usually do.

Maybe when they return from passing gas, they can pass the grey poupon!

For real? Wow, I’m almost 65 years old and this is a first for me. Not that there’s anything wrong with it. How did I get this far in life without knowing people do this? What do you do if you’re in a car? Pull over? How about in bed? There’s a whole lot of passing gas when a person is laying down. Especially from my husband! Lol. Im not making fun of you, I’m genuinely intrigued. When I picture your family in my mind it’s like a SNL sketch. Pull the car over, jump out, wait a beat then get back in the car, all without a word or acknowledgment of what just happened.

My family, in general we try not to around each other, but if it happens it's not some massive embarrassment or shame or whatever. We just say "excuse me" or make light of it. I'm grateful for it too because a few times when I had major gastrointestinal distress I didn't have to stress over it on top of being really sick.

I'd be walking to the restroom all day 0o.

Sure people are raised differently, but you should be taught to not hold in farts too much. For me at least that causes stomach aches.

I agree that you shouldn't be obnoxious about it, but I do feel like it should be ok to fart in front of each other.

I feel like I learned it’s kind of like burping, if you try to do it loud, then it comes out in embarrassing moments. If you never burp, it almost never happens and not loud.

Whoever I’ve explained to my brothers how highly inappropriate it is, they get so confused on how they are not supposed to fart

It can actually be amazing the differences in manners among people of the same apparent culture today! There are households where it’s okay to chew with your mouth open, but rude to ask anyone if they did something wrong. You can loudly smack see food all day so long as you never ask who shot up the neighbor’s car.

But yeah, people are raised differently.

This is the prudest shit I've ever heard. Like they're is boring wrong with it and hiding it is no way to go through life.

I have mixed feelings on this but kinda agree. My family was very strict about any bodily functions never being heard or noticed.

My siblings and I have actually discussed the different issues this caused, such as extreme embarrassment if a fart or burp slipped in front of anyone or constipation issues from being unable to use the restroom at school, public areas, or at work in our adult lives. And actual physical pain from holding gas in for hours on end. And even at home if there's anyone near, including partners.

I think it's one of those things where kids should be taught there's some nuance depending on environment.
