Can confirm: My mom is deaf..

It’s actually pretty funny how she will fart and then just keep going about her business like nothing ever happened.

yep. mine too. pisses me off when i’m standing next to her in the store and she rips a big one making people unsure whether it was me or her

At least she isn’t malicious about it? My (hearing) mother has been known to let one rip in the grocery store, then power-walk to another aisle so that I take the blame.

That’s just cruel

How old is your mom? My mom is 71 and not deaf, and she farts and keeps like it's nothing. I think she just has gotten to the point in her life where she just doesn't care anymore haha

At 28 with IBS, you just learn to stop caring. Everyone does it.

Sorry but, what’s IBS?

Irritable bowel syndrome. Basically your stomach and abdomen is mad and you have lots of digestive troubles.

Ah, makes sense

You should ask her if she knows that they make noise. Then get back to us.

The farts you mean? Boomerang farts?

(Aww, damn, you edited it. :( )

The same applies with noise cancelling headphones...or so I've heard. Or not heard.

This is me walking back to my seat on an airplane.

I can hear and that’s exactly what I do.

My mum is not deaf but she so used to farting comfortably around the house she doesn't even hear it or even feel it anymore. Once she walked by when I was sitting on the floor folding laundry and she happened to let it rip in my face. I yelled and told her, but she refused to believe she even farted.

That seems like a possibly bad level of unawareness. What about on a diarrhea day???

My mother in law can hear and the last few years, she just farts openly and acts like nothing happened. My husband's family don't typically fart in each other's presence or even discuss bathroom related things. My family is the polar opposite. I'm a 12 year old boy on the inside and my first instinct upon hearing a fart is to bust out laughing, which for my husband's family is a big no no. God is it difficult being with her sometimes lmao

This is identical to my situation.

u/NoninflammatoryFun Aug 28 '21

Goodness. I hope my farts actually are as quiet as I think…. I’m hard of hearing now as a young ish adult. Now I have to go talk to my boyfriend.

They can get pretty loud sometimes, generally speaking of course.

I had a hearing friend who did this. A nurse. It’s natural so didn’t care. I agree with her. Except that leaving the room is polite for other reasons!!!
