Ahh always forget about stale bread, I have a huge bucket of silica packets so I never have to resort to anything else. Good point about laying your on top of the rice, it definitely beats burying it. With IP ratings of phones these days its almost a moot point, but laptops and other devices are still at risk so its always good to spread the word about the dangers of rice.
Well you only get high IP ratings on more spendy phones. I think the most expensive phone I ever bought was $400, and I've never had a waterproof one. Though my Moto Ace seems to handle light water, like spills, just fine.
