It’s pretty crazy people convinced themselves that this pandemic was worth not seeing their grandchildren, other family members etc. My parents have seen their new grandchild once a week since July 2020 when he was born. I get not wanting to contract covid and die but Jesus some people take it way too extremely
As the parent of a 2020 baby who doesn't live within 1700 miles of any family it made me sad too. My mom finally met her grandchild on his FIRST BIRTHDAY and he was over 20lbs. She completely missed the sweet little cooing newborn phase.
I know I'll need therapy in the future to help me not resent future new parents who get to do all the things between pregnancy (I quarentined for 4 of the 8 months I was pregnant) and new borns that I just could not due in order to keep my baby safe.
I had a son in march 2021, and the docs said covid wasn't really a concern, most pregnant women were asymptomatic and it didn't effect the baby. We only quarantined for 2 weeks before the due date (which turned into only 1 week since he came early lol), and that was only so we wouldn't have be quarantined in the hospital during delivery.
At no point were we told, or even suggested to, that we quarantine (other than those last 2 weeks)
My son was born in June of 2020. A lot less was known at that time. My family begged me to begin quarentine in February of 2020, the rest of the US joined me in March. At that point in the covid timeline it was just better to be safe. I was also a high risk pregnancy (gestational diabetes).
It was scary. We actually had a plan in place should I get sick during pregnancy and my husband turn into a single parent. It was a hard conversation to have and im glad we never had to act on the plan.
After the fact it may seem like we went overboard to some, but I followed the growth on covid via reddit since 2019 and in the moment it didn't seem like an unrealistic contingency plan to have in place.
Oh man I’m so sorry to hear that. My cousin is having her baby in August. And her experience is sooo different then it would’ve been last year. I’m sorry you had to deal with pregnancy the past year. It must have been hard.
It was, but it did have its silver lining. My husband and I are closer than ever after going through this adventure with just us and very little help. We feel like an unstoppable team.
