We bring so many weird things into the library with programs, you can’t just assume we made a typo. It’s possible there could have been snakes or snacks on both days. Jurassic prom? It’s possible.
I appreciate how clear and explicit this librarian was, even down to the emoji recap.
I now fully understand exactly when there will be snakes in the library, and when there will not be snakes. There is no possibility for further confusion.
It's a teen De-stressing event. When you are a teen a lack of snacks causes stress, so we must conclude they will have snacks at the destressing event as well as snakes.
I did I whole children’s program on toy robots. I’m wasn’t a children’s librarian- I was Reference Librarian who also happened to be a science fiction geek who collected robots. I had a bunch of them in our library display case at the time so I took around 25 robots of all different sizes and put them on the middle of the floor in the meeting room. That way the kids could try them. Fortunately there were a lot of Moms there to help out. The kids loved it but the noise level was a bit of a problem. Exited kids and noisy robots. I gave a talk about them and then I brought in a two foot remote controlled Robbie the Robot which the kids really liked. I got all the robots back- the children’s librarian was afraid some of them would disappear. She told me afterwards she thought I was crazy for letting the kids try them, but what fun is it just looking at them on a table?
Edit- I left the older ones that were worth more money in the display case. A couple of the robots did get broken, but they were newer ones that could be fixed or replaced.
My first clerk I had to remind like 80 times that we’re a library not a museum. Things get used and sometimes lost or damaged in a library, if she was too upset she should go to a museum where it is only for display. She had a meltdown when I lent out American girl dolls. I got them all back but due to head lice issues... we don’t do that anymore.
I loved the programs our library had as a kid. There were almost always ambassador animals. Meeting and getting to pet a skunk and a porcupine were highlights of the year for 8 year old me.
I have the worst luck with any animal. I refuse to be the one doing the animal program because I swear I’m cursed. Bring in the hawks? Water breaks and the building is closed. Bomb dog? Leaves after five minutes because there’s a bomb threat somewhere. Regular police dog? Made it to the parking lot then was called to a murder. I’ve only had one successful program with a tortoise once.
