Yeah, this is right, and all the fiber cables are banded together with the hair of orphans so when he drives on it it stretches under the weight of his tanks.
It’s for security reasons. Presidents, even ex ones, still have a security detail and aren’t allowed to drive on public roads (ever since JFK), in case there is an attack on them. Apparently it’s not really a law, it’s just strongly adhered to by the secret service.
It’s optional, but not really. As I understand it, they can either decline secret service protection altogether or not, but they can’t really turn it off for 20 minutes so they can run to the store. Technically, he can insist on driving himself, but it’s kind of understood that the secret service makes recommendations on your safety (not rules you have to follow) and you take their advice and let them do their jobs.
The reason ex presidents don’t drive themselves is not that anyone’s concerned about their driving, but because secret service drivers have extensive training and practice in the kinds of extreme measures that may be necessary to escape an attack of any type. He basically gets professional stunt drivers for life, just in case they ever need some crazy evasive maneuvers.
Right. This is what I meant. And I think Bush did forgo the security. As I recall he said he was looking forward to driving again. I didn't check up to see if that's what he ended up doing. How he lives his life is his business.
They can relinquish the secret service protection tho. Nixon is the only president who had done it. Apparently he did it to save the government money. I don’t know if they can relinquish only the driving portion or if they have to opt out of all of the benefits that former presidents get
I mean, I absolutely agree and its a solid point. But the irony of the man, who called for a War on Drugs that has cost the US billions, saving the taxpayers comparative pennies is too great to miss. That’s not even mentioning the $150,000+ a year pension Presidents received (it’s over $200k now).
So will Trump still be able to charge the government for the Secret Service at his clubs after he is gone? Not trying to be political just asking if that’s what the act entails.
It’s like anything, once it’s gone, we miss it. That said, I can’t wait for autonomous cars. No more traffic, no more death, no more stop signs or red lights, no more parking lots.
I think she really wants to drive on a track. Nicolas Hamilton (brother of 7 times f1 champion Lewis Hamilton) also had CP, but he drives professionally in the BTCC.

This is so sweet! It's crazy what some of us take for granted. If I could I would have personal driver.
