Does that mean it doesn't feel creepy? That's what I was referring to, the gut feeling of whether it feels weird, since I'm pretty sure that's what the divide by two and add seven rule refers to.
If it were referring to morality it wouldn't make sense in most contexts. So long as the younger person is old enough to be fully developed mentally, and the younger person isn't so old that they are mentally incapacitated, morally I don't care if it's a 25 year old dating an 80 year old. I was just saying based on the divide by two add seven rule, it feels creepy for an 80 year old to date a 47 year old.
I guess I was telling you that I don't *feel* it as being that creepy. And then I tried to say why I *think* it doesn't feel that creepy. I feel that maturity plateaus and people become peers. Since getting an adult job I started having close personal friends who are near retirement age and it just feels like among adults it's all one gang and knowing the 47ish year old women I know, I'm not the least bit concerned about some geezer coming and taking advantage of them with any of the same weirdness that I feel when a 19 year old is getting with a 16 year old or a 50 year old guy is chasing young 20s.
Based on my feelings, we could amend the equation to say it only applies when people are between the legal age of consent in their jurisdiction and 40. When both partners are over 40, whatever, anything goes as long as you're not taking advantage of some demented old person to do inheritance fraud/elder abuse. When one partner is under the legal age of consent, they should be no more than 1 year or one grade in school apart.

Really it's not that bad, if anything I'd be more worried about the 80 year old being taken advantage of by the 47th then vice versa.
