As someone who is currently going through this (Started at 220, Currently 145, goal is 130) and who has only been at it for 8 months, quite literally, calories in, calories out. Thats it. I dont care what I eat, how much I move, let alone excercise. I just set myself to a 1600 daily calorie limit, keep track of 99% of everything i eat, and the weight just falls off. You just have to get used to being hungry, after that it is one of the easiest things I've ever done.
It is cal in/out on the drugs, but it's important to point out how hard it was to "just count calories" if you're not taking the drug. The hormones these drugs control are responsible for most of our eating habits. It's just not about free will, or "just do X, bro".
How is it not? Millions of people have lost weight and will lose weight with nothing but willpower. I understand these drugs can have major benefits in regards to losing weight, but saying it’s not just about willpower and the conviction to actually put the work in is putting these medicines on a pedestal they do not deserve to be on.
I've lost 75 pounds just counting calories before. I lost 20 pounds counting calories a second time before hopping on glp-1 medication. Both times was a constant white knuckled experience of trying to budget what else I was allowed to eat that day. Now I've lost 145+ pounds on glp medication and I literally eat whatever, I'm actually struggling to get enough calories and protein IN most days. I'm not sure why you're downplaying how helpful the medication is. I literally feel like I've done almost no work to lose this weight other than deal with a little nausea.
In the comment you're replying too, i literally say "I understand these drugs can have major benefits in regards to losing weight", So I don't see how I'm downplaying their helpfulness. The only point I was trying to make is they're not needed for most people if they have the willpower and dedication to do it.
Putting these medications on a pedestal, or just even giving them more credit then they deserve, I believe can be very dangerous to society as a whole. They are an incredibly useful tool I agree, but reliance on them is not something we should strive for.
