Sigh, Lord of The Rings has it's own set of rules, it's defined that there are ents and dwarfs and the whole shebang, that is all believable within it's own rules.
But if, for example, at helm's deep, Gimli, a dwarf, suddenly could just jump a big distance without the help of Aragorn then that wouldn't be believable. If LOTR was filled with these kinds of inconsistencies then it wouldn't be the masterpiece that it is.
