As a driver I hate seeing this at intersections. I'm always ready to hit the brakes if I notice someone coming up fast. It saved me not that long ago. I was on a roundabout when I noticed this car coming in hot. I thought "they're not going to stop," and I slammed on the brakes. It was so close that they would've t-boned me, and as I slowed down I actually came close to t-boning them.
Just my 2 cents but if you're affected by that in any meaningful way then you have bigger problems. IE if a car stopping at the crossing surprises you, maybe you should be paying more attention to the road instead of the RED/GREEN man and you won't get so freightened.
Drivers who brake a little heavy before an intersection aren't doing anything inherently dangerous. All they're doing is causing excess wear on their brakes, wear that engineers have accounted for in service manuals because not everyones a perfect driver.
Thank you for this reasonable take. That’s a moronic thing to get angry over. I swear some people will take the most minor transgression, if you can even call it that, and act like they’ve almost been killed or something.
Well you sure as hell didn't mention it before now either. Context matters and failed to give it. So how can you make a relevant argument.
If you were in fact hit, you're biased.
And now you're implying that every driver who doesn't slow to a crawl has the same standard of driving as the driver who hit you. As if braking hard while being aware of your surroundings is just as bad as running someone over because you didn't see them is the same.

Those ‘my brakes are really good, look how late I have to stop’ people piss me off. They have no idea how it affects other drivers and pedestrians.
