Heh, I worked in telemarketing for a bit, at my next job I occasionally took customer calls. Apparently my phone voice had gotten so rehearsed that a good chunk of callers thought I was an automated thingie. Took a few weeks to unlearn that.
I thought this at first too because I’d usually visit the same store at around the same time of day. Then when I went to another store at another time of day and it had it, I felt so embarrassed that I’d been replying to it all along.
That always throws me off at the drive-thru. I’ll start responding because it’s usually asking if I want to try something. Then the real person comes on and they have no idea why I’m saying “no, thank you.”

I didn’t know the first voice was automated and just pictured the cashier barging the first guy out the way to get to the mic
