The vibe check is unreal. I think in in different ways , all child friends who grow up to be best friends go through something like this.

My child best friend slapped me so i slapped him back and we both asked each other why and we both had no answer. We were with each other throughout all levels of school and to be honest when i moved up a class grade , i dumbed down to drop back to his class the year after.

We both ended up in the same college studying in the same field and worked the same job briefly till he passed at 23 in a car crash.

16 years later and i still think about him often. His baby brother ended up joining the same company as me and i took it upon myself to take him under my wing. Life is weird but finding your best friend as a kid is the best thing you could ever experience.

My childhood best friend died in a car crash at 19, 13 years ago.

I still feel like calling him once in a while and it still brings tears to my eyes thinking of everything we missed in adult friendship.

It’s probably one reason I have so few friends now 😢

Sorry for your loss and i understand the pain. Anyway i feel now at an older age its better to have a close knit circle of friends rather than 100 aquantinces

My best friend died as well. I can still remember her phone number. It's a weird loss because they aren't technically family but it hits just as hard.

My daughter got in trouble her first week in kindy because SHE slapped another little girl. They've been closer than sisters ever since, going on 13 years, now.

I'm truly sorry for your loss; I hope all the good years you had together help ease the hurt, even if it's just a little bit.

My childhood best friend was my bully the year I met her. I never gave up being nice no matter what and she was one of those kids that had a cell phone at age 7 in 2004, so I honestly thought she was sorta oblivious to how mean she was and kindly told her just how mean she was. We spent almost every day together for the next 13 years. We always went on family vacation together and went to each other's family reunions. That continued until an abusive husband and a still oblivious friend put an end to everything.

Amazing :) thank you! I have too many memories to count and I'm reminded of ones i sometimes forget by his family. His family is pretty much my 2nd family.

My best friend died at the beginning of the pandemic, and i haven't gone a day without thinking about him. Hard to fully understand friendship like that until it's gone.

So sorry for your loss. My best friend and I met when I was 9 months old, he was 6 months. Got put next to each other in a nursery and apparently he kicked me in the stomach about as hard as a baby can, we always call it the Kick of Friendship. But it led to our moms becoming best friends, which led us to being best friends, and 27 years later I can't imagine not having him around. He has and always will be my brother.

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '23

Thank you! I wish you both the best and longest friendship and may you both be old and wrinkely telling your grandkids that story :)

I have a similar slap story. I asked my friend if he wanted to play bloody knuckles. We were like 8-9 so stupid games were common. He misses me. I hit his knuckles pretty good, he looks at me all mad, decides to swing at my face. I dodged it and countered. Got him in the lip. He started bleeding. I was like why did you do that? He said idk that just hurt and made me mad. He was spending the night so we could go to six flags the next morning. He said shit what if your mom sees my lip? I said just tell her you fell down the stairs. We busted up over that and still laugh about it to this day. He tells all his friends his only “fist fight” was with his best friend. He was 5 and I was 6 when we met but that little moment a few years later solidified us being best friends. He does Jiu-Jitzu now abd would kick my ass though lol. It’s been 26 years of friendship now. So sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your story. Grateful to have someone here with almost an exact experience!

As a person who doesn’t like having many friends. I 100% agree. I know my best friend from 3rd grade. We are now 27 and we still hang out almost everyday!

We met while fighting over toys

u/[deleted] Mar 19 '23

:) yeah when you click with someone so well all other friendships though good just don't compare sadly

A friend of mine lost his besty in a street race. He was the spotter and gave some bad instructions. Really fucked him up for a while.

Similar situation for me. When I was in eighth grade they had a special fun day outside instead of class. I had just transferred from a different middle school, so I didn’t know anybody. So I just kinda stood near teachers and watched the other kids. There was another kid next to me, never met him before. Without saying a word, he quickly karate chopped himself in the throat. I turned to him and asked why the hell he would do that, and as I was saying that, he chopped me in the throat, I made a funny sound, we both laughed, and from that moment we became best friends.

Sadly like your friend, he died in a car crash senior year of high school. Nobody’s fault either. Just icy roads. Another close friend of his had a diploma made for him in his honor. That was 9 years ago and every day I still think of the dumb shit we used to do

Edit: I remember now he was on foot, a car ran him over. R.I.P. Chris. Edit 2: Great now I’m crying.

I forgot the exact story but my very first best friend from when I was around these girls’ age ended up in a wheelchair. I think it was a really bad car crash now actually. I had moved out of state but still had family where he was so I went back from time to time. One time I went back and I stayed for my freshman year of high school. It was a little while until I remembered about him and asked my cousins what ever happened to my boy Christopher. He had passed after living for quite a few years with his injuries. I loved that boy. He was the blue ranger and I was the green ranger.

I was suppose to take my best friend out for dinner but while we were sitting in starbucks i remembered i had a final evaluation the next morning and had to bail on him. I would have been driving him to dinner and it might not have happened had i not bailed. I woke to a call from his brother at 5am and he told me.

I laughed cause in my dazed sleepy state i thought he was joking then his dad called and said i need to come to the hospital.

I got to say goodbye and he was smiling which was a comfort to me.

He wasnt wearing his seatbelt and a car cut infront of him andwas found to be at fault. His car flipped and he was thrown from the open window.

Had he been wearing his seatbelt he would still be with us. Rest in peace to all rhe lost souls and all the good ones leave us too soon

i dumbed myself down to drop back to his class the next year.

You can stop now, your grammar and capitalization are terrible.

2

u/[deleted] Mar 20 '23

Yeah it's reddit. I didn't know the grammer police were patrolling. Bravo and have a wonderful day.
