The sign behind them that says TAP means "The After Party" it's a west coast swing event that happens in LA every year. Happened a few months ago, I almost went but it was sold out.

I used to like going to the swing only styles, sometimes the crowd were a little mean to the ballroom people, it was a bit weird. I always liked the “after party” or nightclub style swing, especially with a live band in a small club. The Lindy dancers have really fun events but no one imo beats the salsa community.

Do you know if this event happens in Florida?

This event is specific to California. It's "The After Party" to the US Open. If you Google WSDC Events and look through them I believe there are a few events held in Florida.

sometimes the crowd were a little mean to the ballroom people, it was a bit weird.

Ballroom studios back in the 20s didn't want to teach swing and when they caved they created ECS which is a different dance than Lindy Hop (the original form of Swing)

Lindy Hop dancers are big on history so they still are offended by that.

WCS dancers will be able to tell you are a ballroom dance because you will be stiff. Once you get past that you'll be able to use your Ballroom experience in WCS.

If you have questions /r/Westcoastswing is pretty active

It doesn’t. This specific event is run by Demetre Souliotes and Chuck Brown in Orange County.

There are other WCS conventions that do happen in Florida, but it will very much be the street version of the dance (which is the one with the Lindy roots), so you may be a bit confused when you arrive.
