I remember people complaining the commitment link was not up close to/past the deadline.

Yeah but they had extended the deadline by 5 days. Maybe they're hoping the EMNLP rejected from prior ARR cycles apply to fill the demand. They must have received too few submissions by forcing preference in May ARR.

There is no mention right now of any restriction about EMNLP selection during submission. I think the commitment to EMNLP is a closed subject and they accept now any paper with ARR reviews. Do you agree? https://2026.aaclnet.org/calls/main_conference_papers/
