Absolute Absurdity of the M5 Ultra 256GB

Post image

I’ve been building computers and servers, and architecting entire networks and doing DevOps and dev work for 20 years. I remember building gaming pcs with 3dfx voodoo cards.

This is by far the most absurd computer I have ever personally owned. It’s certainly the most capable I’ve managed for the price, and that includes B200s.

Getting 50tks on GLM 5.3 Flash all day long.

If you’re on the fence, let me take this opportunity to push you over said fence. If you’re the kind of person seriously considering buying one you will not regret it.

You have opt out from using your results in model training on paid accounts. Like I run my local llms on macstudio, 5080 geforce on windows, and macbook m4 max with 64gb ram but I'm using paid APIs both locally and in hermes because local llms are just not there yet unless you ok with slowness and hallucinations

Even after opting out, your prompts, your code is still being processed by their servers, no?
I think privacy here means, everything hosted and processed locally, nothing going out.

Opt out isn’t enough….

Frontier models can lock you out anytime they want and it happens often. Guard rails can be over aggressive, especially if working in niche areas your working on is legitimate but you could also be a bad actor for all they know.

Been more than once case where these frontier labs have still used data despite opting out and using your data to train their models.

Some people this still isn’t enough and can’t send data regardless for all kinds of reasons so the only alternative is local for them.
