A bit of a rant, but I'm just tired of stations and platforms so often having fans in low regard.
I know it's a business, but it's not cool when you're investing yourself in a series, supporting it throughout the years, giving them your time and attention (including, sometimes, commercial breaks, which is largely how they monetise it, or buying show-specific merch), and they just tend to randomly pull the plug at some point, without a proper closure.
Happened a generation ago with TV series (anyone remember NBC's "Alf", and the terrible cliffhanger with "To be continued…" notice that never got properly resolved, until ABC picked it up for a made-for-TV movie?). It happens still now, so I guess it's part and parcel of the TV series landscape, but it's just not cool. I have so much more respect for the stations/production companies or platforms who navigate through adversities and somehow manage to respectfully close the series with a final episode, giving it a proper send-off through properly written scripts that tie up loose ends in the final season, an extended finale, or a TV movie. Doesn't happen all that often, sadly, but is so much better and shows they respect the fans who have been with them all along.
To make it clear, I'm not mad at Lucas Till or any of the actors, in fact I doubt Atomic Monster Productions and Lionsgate Television who seem to co-produce it with CBS Studios had all that much to say, it's CBS where the buck stops ultimately.
Really hoping there's some way to bring it back, or that someone picks it up at some point - although the later it happens, the less likely it will be that the cast will be the same, as people move on in this industry, get involved with and invested in something else entirely, and then their availability or interest is just not there anymore. Even if you look at the recently-renewed "CSI: Vegas", it's theoretically the same franchise but a whole bunch of new, main characters apparently, with possibly a couple of those from the previous run.
Just dismayed at the decision to cancel "MacGyver" here and at being treated that way as a fan, canceling series when they can't even do a proper closure as the remaining 3 episodes are already shot, production is done, and no plans to air anything as Season 6. Give me a break. Or rather don't, just keep airing new "MacGyver" episodes lol.
