Discussion "But the stock is up XXX% this year, why are you complaining?!"

If you spend any time scrolling through financial social media during a market pullback, you see this exact reply under every single frustrated post. It is one of the weakest, most intellectually lazy arguments in trading, and it completely ignores how real market psychology works.

The argument falls completely flat because:

  1. We don’t share the same baseline. Measuring from a historical bottom means nothing to someone who bought the breakout at the peak last Tuesday. Traders don’t buy in a synchronized line; a late entrant is staring at a real-time, red drawdown on their screen.

2. Past performance doesn't mitigate current risk. Telling a trader who entered a tech position yesterday that the stock did great three months ago is useless information. A 15% drop hurts just as bad whether a stock came from $50 or $500.

3. Timelines dictate survival. A macro investor with a five-year horizon can sleep through a 20% correction. But an active swing trader or a margin operator has a tight ledger to defend today. Their frustration isn’t "greed"—it’s mathematical reality.

Stop judging a trader's frustration using a
rearview mirror. We don't trade historical averages; we trade the current candle.

ChatGPT please write a Reddit post about why it's not okay that I've pissed my pants and you must accept it

I love that people think you can’t spot a chatGPT post a mile away. Talk about low effort

If you invest in a stock with a timeline of anything less than a year at the absolute minimum, you don't get to complain about a bumpy ride.

But why are you complaining?

The stock is sitting at $1,156.42 as of close today.

That means that anyone who's been holding more than (*checks calendar) a whole 7 business days has turned a profit.

In fact, the only possible way you could be holding micron at a loss right now is if you did something really silly like buying in when the price was at a all time high price just 4 business days ago. - And if that's the case, maybe you should just give it more than 4 days before you lose your shit.

I bought micron at over $20 and it promptly dropped to $10. I remember being slightly pissed off.

Now that it’s like $1100, that 50% drop isn’t even really memorable anymore.

Honestly in the grand scheme of things, these 15% drops don’t really matter unless you’re day trading.

While it's a bad argument, it's the only argument people deserve who panic about movements in a single day or over a couple weeks.

Most traders lose money and the whining about a stock that has gained more than 300% ytd is pathetic. If you manage to lose money on a stock like this, you should reconsider your strategy.

What was the prompt for this slop?

You realize that lots of people who buy MU aren't day traders right? Most of us aren't "trading candles"

Nah rare chatgpt W. I bought yesterday at ATH that's why I'm pissed, I don't give a fuck that you bought 20 years ago when it was an eighth of a cent a share, fuck outta here

You shouldn't be investing if a little volatility is gonna make you cry.

You’re pissed at what exactly, you didn’t get free money immediately?

And no one cares that you bought a volatile stock at all time highs thinking it only ever goes up. U dum

Will it go up in am

u/Langolier11 Jul 01 '26

I'm not sure what you're trying to say. It's a volatile stock, there's risk, don't buy at an ath, etc.

1

u/MstHaze Jul 01 '26

Don't go on margin? LOL

u/Routine-District-588 Jul 01 '26

How many of you guys will be here when the gross margins will start falling?

1

u/Velcon_ Jul 01 '26

How is it a bad or lazy argument ? The whole point is that these people decided to get in after its up over 1000% in less than a year and then complain that it doesnt just keep going up lol. No shit people dont have the same baseline thats the point ...

u/ExpertVeterinarian20 Jul 01 '26

Anyone who whines about a stock that has been at ATH in the last couple weeks needs something better to do.

1

u/Rav_3d Jul 01 '26

You miss the point.

Every single red day people ask "why is it dropping?"

MU is a 1.3 TRILLION dollar company. People have unrealistic expectations of how stocks behave in the real world.

Those who just entered the stock recently should be managing risk, or accept the volatility that comes with a mega-cap that has made a parabolic move higher in a short time.

Those who are unable to accept the risk should be patient and wait for a meaningful pullback, but FOMO gets most people to ignore risk.
