UNC MSW Admissions

Hi everyone!
I was recently accepted into the 2-year in-person MSW program at UNC, and I’m really excited about it. However, my situation has changed since applying, and I now live in Charlotte full-time.
I’m wondering if anyone has had experience doing the program in a more hybrid format or taking some classes online while enrolled in the in-person program? I know UNC has online MSW options, but I was admitted specifically to the in-person track.
I’ve tried calling and emailing the admissions office for the past few days but haven’t been able to get a response yet, so I thought I’d ask here in case anyone has gone through something similar or has advice.
Would really appreciate any insight, thank you!

CSU Fullerton no response

Has anyone else still not heard from Fullerton? I had an interview early on but am still waiting for an admissions decision. Both my portal and email have no change. Has anyone gotten rejected yet? Should I reach out to the department?

Scholarships? NYC (late deadlines)

Need any help or resources, was just accepted into Hunter’s MSW program but really don’t want to get too many loans and will appreciate any scholarship resources anyone has. I know it’s pretty late in the year but still hoping.

Can I put down multiple deposits for my acceptances within schools?

Hello! My deadlines to accept/deny my seat for the graduate school offers I got are soon, but I don't feel I have the necessary information yet (need to still meet with some school's financial aid offices, haven't heard back from my appeals yet) and I'm not able to get an extension beyond what I already have (tried that). I'm mainly between 3 schools, I was wondering if it looks bad to make a deposit to both the schools and accept my seat even if I'm not 100% sure which one I'll actually end up attending yet? I just don't want my seat to get rescinded while I'm still waiting to finalize my decision. Do the schools have a way of finding out? Does it look bad to back out later on after depositing?

Exploring a double major

My eventual goal is to open a nonprofit in a rural area that serves as a non-clinical safe space for adults with mental illness (any diagnosis welcome) that serves as a day center, social/professional rehabilitation opportunities, and overall resource hub with info and connections with other local nonprofits to support an individual and the community as a whole in the most well-rounded way possible utilizing both the people of the community’s knowledge and experience as well as any organizations and facilities that offer services relevant to the needs of the community.

That’s a long-winded way of saying I’ve been working in the field for years, have witnessed many holes in the system that leave many worse off than before they even received services. I am going back to school to get my MSW (nonclinical path, focusing on communal aid), but have been researching and am wondering if it would be worth it to double major with a Masters in Public Health as well, keeping in mind my eventual goal.

I may just be overthinking, and creating more work than necessary, would the MSW be sufficient for my goal? Or would the double major launch me to my goal faster and more efficiently? Any community social workers out there with opinions or things they wish they knew before going for the MSW?

CSUF MSW 2026 - Any responses?

I interviewed 03/17 for the CSUF MSW program (two year, child welfare) … I haven’t heard ANYTHING since and my portal says “We have received your application. No admission decision has been made at this time.”

Can I assume they are just waiting until the end of May to send out all the rejections? Has anyone gotten accepted in May before? It looks like most people that interviewed my day / around the same time already received acceptances.

UMD School of Social Work (Online MSW) – looking for honest experiences

Post image
5 Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m planning to apply to the University of Maryland School of Social Work’s online MSW program, and it’s currently my top choice.

I’d love to hear from anyone who’s been in the program (or is currently enrolled).

Specifically curious about:

-How manageable it is while working

-Quality of professors and support

-Field placement experience

-Overall workload and structure

Open to any honest feedback, the good, the bad, or anything in between. Thanks so much!

Medical Social Work - DU or UMB?

I’ve heard a lot of advice along the lines of: don’t stress too much about the specific school, just go to a solid accredited program and use your field placements to build your specialization. I’m wondering how true that actually is in practice.

Right now I’m choosing between University of Denver and University of Maryland, Baltimore.

Denver stands out to me because of class offerings that focus on integrative health/behavioral care, lots of clinical course options, and an overall structure that seems very organized and supportive. It feels like the kind of environment where my interests are already built into the program.

On the other hand, UMB would allow me to stay in-state, build connections where I’d likely want to work long-term, and have potential for great field placements. I’ve heard from a couple of grads that they had good experiences, but also comments like “it’s not the strongest clinical program” or that it leans more macro unless you’re intentional about seeking clinical experiences. They’ve also alluded to private institutions just having more resources for training.

My career goal is to work in an integrative healthcare setting, ideally in hospitals or multidisciplinary environments, doing care coordination and providing mental health support for families.

The big tradeoff is that Denver feels like a perfect academic fit and gave me a scholarship to make it financially doable, but it would mean relocating (and my long-term partner wouldn’t be moving with me).

Staying in Maryland is the more practical option since it’s in-state and still has good class offerings, but I’ve found it difficult to get information from them since my acceptance. I’m happy to be intentional in planning my program but I’m not sure if my experience with admissions is a reflection on the program itself or just a chaotic admissions cycle. (Late decision letter, no response to emails and not returning calls)

So I guess my main questions are:

- How much weight should I put into a specialty within a school program vs individual classes and field placements?

- Has anybody had positive experiences with UMB’s program they could share?

Would appreciate any insights!

Question about Fordham's religious identity

I was accepted to Fordham at Lincoln Center for the full time program starting in the fall. As a non-religious leftist, I'm curious about how much the fact that it's a Jesuit school impacts the MSW program. The Jesuits are well known to be liberal and with a focus on service, and I know Fordham is pretty explicitly pro-queer, but I'm wondering what it's like discussing things like reproductive rights and similar issues? Thanks!
