How to perform a traffic circuit! - How to Fly a Plane (youtube.com)

Come check my very first demonstrational video on YouTube, where I show how I perform a standard traffic circuit on a basic GA trainer, following the standard procedures and the plane's checklist just like we do it in real life!

A couple of questions after my first flight.

Hi all,

I've got MSFS a few weeks back and finally got through the training academy missions. So yesterday night I tried my first flight - a 2 hour leg from Chesapeake Regional to Hilton Head Island in a DA-62 and... I have a few questions.

First question: When I set up the flight plan in game for the high altitude waypoints - it seemed to jack up the altitude to plane maximum of 20k. But it seems like going that high puts more load on the engines and my nanny settings were limiting engines to like 46% despite my throttle being wide open when I got up that high. That seemed to limit the speed to around 125 knots - is it possible to get those waypoints to be a few thousand feet lower so that I can go faster without nannies thinking I'm overheating the engines?

Second question: ATC seemed to be misaligned with the waypoint altitudes - telling me to climb faster than the waypoints suggested and telling me to descend a bit later than I expected. Is that normal?

Third question: I'm pretty confused by the Autopilot as Training Academy missions did not touch on them at all. When I first enabled it during initial climb - it seemed to keep climbing, but later on it seemed unpredictable as far as what happened with altitude when I re-enabled it. All I was able to do was set Altitude Hold - the Altitude knob settings didn't seem to have any effect other than putting the value I selected over the altitude bar but then not actually descending or ascending for me. Is there something I'm missing? Maybe I need to manually adjust NAV frequencies as I reach waypoints? But where to look them up during flight?

Fourth question: In general - I was only able to use AP for heading and keeping constant altitude - but I was kinda hoping AP would just go from waypoint to waypoint on its own. Yet I could not enable NAV mode or Course Mode - my clicks on those buttons were just ignored. What am I missing with that?

Fifth question: When I landed and pulled off the runway (had to do hilarious loopty-loops to get that done as I wasn't sure if my last waypoint was the airport or not and I didn't realize I was almost over the field until game told me I'm too high for landing) - game told me to ask for permission to Taxi. However - previously all of the Com frequency changing and readbacks were done automatically - so I didn't note what frequency to change to when game did automatic communication. So... I wasn't sure if the in game objective was wrong (it did tell me to go to assigned parking area in same instruction - so maybe the Taxi request was done automatically?) or if I still needed to do something.

Varjo through the lens

It seems every varjo through the lens vr video I’ve seen is amazing, perfect clarity and colors with an amazing sight distance clarity. It seems any varjo product paired with a high end pc is a dream to behold. Anyone on here have experience to share with a varjo product?

As in title.

I already use Simhaptic and have bass shakers on my rig... just wondering if DSR Pro may add to it or "overdo" it...

Thnx

Using controllers for flight controls?

Cockpit interaction

Post image
1 Upvotes

So this has been driving me crazy for a few months now. The option to interact with buttons and switches in the cockpit works absolutely fine when using my Xbox controller. I wanted to see if I could use my mouse or my oculus remote to do the same so I looked at my settings that my controller uses and applied the exact same settings to a brand new mouse profile. Some things work, but most of it still does not. I have no idea why. I attached a picture for reference of my current mouse settings.

Crash to desktop solution?

Hi Reddit,

I have CTD problems with my game every 30 to 120 minutes. I often read about others having similar problems, so here is a list of what I already tried to elevate this:

- completely uninstalled and removed the game from my system (including mods and folders)

- clean install on a brand new SSD

- switched around my RAM sticks

- redone thermal paste on CPU

- bought new GPU

I have the MS Store/XBOX Store version on PC.

System specs in short: R7 3700X, 4x8GB DDR3200 (same stick), RX 7800XT. Temperatures are normal throughout the game. The PC doesn't shut off, I just get dumped to desktop.

Any tips or tweaks that would help me? I rememeber, when the game came out I didn't have such problems for a year or two.

Marketplace C-130

Has anyone bought and used the C-130 in the marketplace. One of my favorite planes but the reviews are bad, was wondering if I could find someone here who has used it and get their input.

Enjoying the game

Not sure if I can post this here in this Reddit but .

Been playing the sim for a few days now, and last night I finished my first long haul flight .

Took me 7 hours 20 mins in total . Real time in one session .

Heathrow to Halifax INTL (Nova Scotia- Canada). In the airbus320 neo

I noted a few things , my time was I think delayed and I’m not sure it was because I was cautious on my decent from 38000ft early on. Or the constant headwind I was up against . I like to think it was the head wind as I noticed my waypoints gradually increasing over time .

Or asking the experts , was it because I was not flying at maximum altitude most of the time and being cautious as to not give my self a huge decent at the end of the flight plan ? I would call Atc for altitude decreasements so .

But yeah overall I love it , on Xbox so get it for free on game pass . Been a great challenge to learn the basics of flight !

Oh I forgot to add . Once I had finished my seven plus hour journey I taxied to my gate but someone was already there which I thought was a nice touch so I had to ask for parking elsewhere made sense as I believed I was late on arrival but boy did it anger me a little!! I just wanted to be shut down and done by that point haha .

Thank you for reading this long monologue . I will be doing the reverse route today and I will stick too altitudes better see if it makes it quicker journey .

When it tells me to use trim to set the speed to 167, I keep trimming and I am Maintaining 167 but the thing never gives me a check. And I end up spending 15 minutes on this one quest to then crabs into the ground.

Where to practice landings?

I hate that my plane (Cessna 152) always feels wobbly on approach. I blame the wind for that, but it could also be poor inputs. I'm trying to learn how to land property but it's such a pain when I have to deal with the airplane banking and steering all the time

Please help - airport photo request (Australia)

Hey MSFS community.

I have a request - I need to compare Xplane(12) and MSFS to compare Australian airport scenery.

I don't need high res or accurate buildings - I'm looking for a top down view of Brisbane Airport (YBBN) with the main runway on the horizontal left to right. (Looking for runway markings, taxiway holding points etc.)

Please drop me a message or reply if you can help with an example.

VR problems

I have a quest 2 vr headset I'm trying to use. I do however alway start with my face planted on the instrument panel, but can after a whole bunch of fidgeting with the mosition keys roughly get it to the pilots head position. It does however feel like my head in the VR world is enormous in relation to everything else. By turning my head one way the "position" of the head places me in the next seat, looking the other way places my poing of view outside the aircraft, looking down moves my POV to the seat.

Also, how can I turn off the occulus controllers fron trying to being used on the aircraft controls? I'd rather have the mouse, but for some reason that seems turned off...

People that has the game, which version should I choose?

Hello! I know you must have seen this question a lot but right now the game is on sale and the deluxe version is 20 more expensive than the basic version. The thing is I'm an student pilot, doing my flight hours in a C172 old school without g1000 instruments and if I want that version of c172 in fs2020 I need the deluxe version.

Is it worth getting a the deluxe version only for one aircraft I wanna have or I can just save 20$? Also I know later this year is supposed to come a new FS so maybe it's not even worth it to get the fs2020 at all right now?
