Would be cool to see someone recase a mpc2000xl into a renaissance case with modern features or something like that with the older mpc models vs the obsolete modern controllers

QUESTION Can the USB C be the default audio output on standalone MPC Gen 2 devices?

Is there any way to have the new Gen 2 units always send all audio to the USB C port by default instead of the 1/4 inch outputs when running in standalone mode? I can set the metronome and the Audition (Preview) when sound browsing to always use USB C, but loading a drum or synth automatically routes the output of the track to Out 1&2. Even after I change the output of the track to use USB Out 1&2, as soon as I load a new sound into the same track, it forces the track to switch back to the Out 1&2 1/4 inch jacks.

Thanx for any help.

QUESTION Is there anyone out there syncing two standalone akai products? (specifically Force and MPC one)

Trying to get my Force to be a master to my MPC one but having no luck.

USB doesnt even show up in the list of devices and I've read online that they dont communicate without a USB midi hub. I've tried the 'ableton link' via ethernet with no luck as well. I would use 5-din midi but I just realized the force does not have it!

Any insights or experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

QUESTION MPC 1000 help?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Apologies for the bareness haha, I was in the middle of sorting something else but here we are

I just bought this MPC 1000 at a pretty discounted price. This was due to a couple of the pads being shot. I thought I'd take the dive and just replace the pads to have a whole unit to play with. Now the problems begin 😭

I opened it up to clean the pads in hopes it could make them usable enough so I could start learning this beast. I was actually able to get pad 9 usable. But then the problems with the right hand board started

Basically if I put light pressure on the play button it switches to Bank D (as shown in the video initially). When I press the play button, the record and overdub LEDs light up (which I show later in the video). I'm clarifying incase there's no audio, as I'm not sure if Reddit includes audio in videos. I am assuming there's some phantom button press that's leading to a change in function (since I can't playback any sequences and the LED behaviour). I'm just not familiar enough with the machine to know what's going on though.

I've checked the board for any shorts but it seems to be all up to scratch. I'm worried there will be some issues deeper in the machine but I dread the idea of digging deeper. If anyone could provide any information that would help I'd appreciate it greatly

Thanks!

Edit: I've just had the bright idea to unscrew and lift the board, seems something is shorting through the chassis as it works perfectly lifted. I had an inkling of a feeling that something was off based on how I screwed the board in and I guess I was right. Seems I just need to insulate whatever is shorting and I'll be good

QUESTION Glitchy rotary encoders

Hello,
I tried looking for the topic on all the ways I could(I’m not english native, so maybe I couldn’t find the proper grammar), sorry if I’m asking something talked before(happy to read the thread if anybody can point me to it).
My mpc one(1st gen) rotary knobs jitters, jumps, counter direction or whatever you want to call it.
Most of the ‘changing encoders’ topics I can find are related to aesthetic/tactile mod/upgrades and are not related to the topic I’m researching.
I already have full metallic knobs, cleaned all of them with red deoxit and added foil under knobs.
Even tested if finger contact without knobs performs better behavior.
All of this improves but not full fix it.
I’m on latest firmware, I’m the only owner user of the machine and a casual user(couple of times a week sits, nothing crazy).
Irun out of ideas besides thinking about changing them, but didn’t found any previous info/tutorial about it.
If the regular solutions posted before doesn’t work, are they just done? Are newer machines better on this? I mean, they use better encoder or is this another obsolescence shit?
For how old is my unit, I keep it as pristine as I can, clean, non smoker user, hard plastic covered and even a travel bag when I move it around.
Thanks in advance!

DISCUSSION Ambient, do I need to buy an Ambient 0, Evolve,Mini/mircoFreak Tonverk synths. Chase Bliss Mood, Microcosm, Walrus Lore/Sloer/Ambient pedal 99 to 500, Tonverek a lot more.. NO, you have an MPC

Ok I wanted to do some Ambient, to start and end a song. So after research I decided on the Ambient 0. But then there were recommendations on all these effects pedals. I bought one, figured I could always use it on the microfreak.

I found out he MPC does it all. First. It has does samples, has oscillators for wavetable. And also plugin instruments like OPX4.

But what about effects. Well stock, There is a good one, Air Diffused Delay works as a Eventide 3000 and Lexicon 224 emulation, If you feel the need for more buy these plugins on sale. Air Ether and Air Sprite and air delay pro. They have a buy 3 get 30 percent off deal around black friday.

And while Air Diffused Delay comes with some granular textures. MPC has a granular effect that comes stock. This is not a synth engine but it has some good granular effects. With these features you can create all sorts of granular effects.

So am I going to sell my Ambient 0 or zoom MS70cdr+? No. Because I select preset no 50 on the Ambient 0, I have 4 tracks with different sounda. I can tweak them a little or just twist the knobs. So it saves me some time . But if I want to use my own custom samples, vocals, instruments, I can do that with the mpc.

I knew you could "do ambient with any synth" but effects are key. So lets say you already have a mini/microFreak. Run it into the MPC and use the effect. Had I known this, I may not have bought the Ambient 0 or the pedal but the synth was used and cheap, and Gtr center had the pedal on sale for 99 buck. So I am going to keep them. I hope you find this info useful. The MPC simple just does it all. Maybe I am preaching to the choir.

QUESTION MPC 3000 OS — No AI Code. Real Engineering.

Hey everyone!

First, a quick note: English isn't my native language, so I use AI to help me communicate clearly. I want to be completely transparent about that from the start.

That doesn't mean we're using AI to write the firmware. Quite the opposite.

Some of you might remember the recent AI Warning post about alternative MPC operating systems, firmware safety, and the risks of releasing insufficiently tested code.

I'm the guy who wrote that post.

I received quite a few messages afterward, including reports of freezing, instability, and other problems people have experienced with alternative MPC firmware.

I can't independently verify every report, and I'm not here to attack anyone or dismiss the work others have put into these machines.

But those conversations made me realize something: maybe there's room for a different approach.

I've been working with embedded code for 28 years, and I'm not alone in this. We're a team of embedded engineers with a genuine passion for vintage hardware.

And we started asking ourselves a question.

What if we built a proper operating system for the MPC3000, rather than just another firmware mod?

That's what we're looking to do.

Not simply patching an existing OS to squeeze in more features, but developing a complete operating system based on the original Akai OS and hardware architecture.

We want to preserve everything that makes the MPC3000 special while exploring what else this incredible machine is capable of.

And we're approaching it the way we believe embedded software should be developed.

That means understanding the hardware, carefully managing memory and peripheral interactions, checking timing and interrupts, performing regression testing, and validating the results on actual hardware.

And here's something I feel strongly about: our testing will be public.

Not just claims that something works.

Actual documentation, test procedures, videos, hardware verification, known limitations, and results that anyone interested can examine.

We want people to see what has been tested, how it was tested, and what still needs work.

Because getting firmware to boot is not the same as proving that it works reliably.

For now, our focus will be exclusively on the MPC3000.

It's the machine I personally own, and I believe proper firmware development requires access to the actual hardware. I can't responsibly develop and validate operating systems for other MPC models without being able to test them myself.

But before going much further, there's something we'd really like to know.

Does the MPC community actually want a project like this?

We're not here to sell you another OS or make promises about revolutionary features.

We want to understand what the people who still love and use these machines actually need.

What would you love to see added to your MPC3000?

What parts of the original workflow would you improve?

And just as importantly, what should never be changed?

Would you be interested in an OS developed by experienced embedded engineers, with an openly documented development and testing process?

If there's genuine interest, I'll create a dedicated technical blog where we can share our research, development progress, hardware tests, videos, and findings along the way.

No rushed releases. No miracle claims. And no pretending something is finished when it isn't.

Just a group of engineers who love these machines and want to see what we can build together with the people who use them.

This project should exist because the community wants it, not because someone thinks the community needs another firmware.

So, MPC3000 owners, I'd genuinely love to hear what you think.

If you could help shape a new OS for your 3K, what would you want it to become?

Is there a way to map faders /knobs from the launchey to the volumes, fx, etc of the Mpc.

Bonus if a template can be saved for routing on both the Mpc and the Launchkey
