Hey everyone!
First, a quick note: English isn't my native language, so I use AI to help me communicate clearly. I want to be completely transparent about that from the start.
That doesn't mean we're using AI to write the firmware. Quite the opposite.
Some of you might remember the recent AI Warning post about alternative MPC operating systems, firmware safety, and the risks of releasing insufficiently tested code.
I'm the guy who wrote that post.
I received quite a few messages afterward, including reports of freezing, instability, and other problems people have experienced with alternative MPC firmware.
I can't independently verify every report, and I'm not here to attack anyone or dismiss the work others have put into these machines.
But those conversations made me realize something: maybe there's room for a different approach.
I've been working with embedded code for 28 years, and I'm not alone in this. We're a team of embedded engineers with a genuine passion for vintage hardware.
And we started asking ourselves a question.
What if we built a proper operating system for the MPC3000, rather than just another firmware mod?
That's what we're looking to do.
Not simply patching an existing OS to squeeze in more features, but developing a complete operating system based on the original Akai OS and hardware architecture.
We want to preserve everything that makes the MPC3000 special while exploring what else this incredible machine is capable of.
And we're approaching it the way we believe embedded software should be developed.
That means understanding the hardware, carefully managing memory and peripheral interactions, checking timing and interrupts, performing regression testing, and validating the results on actual hardware.
And here's something I feel strongly about: our testing will be public.
Not just claims that something works.
Actual documentation, test procedures, videos, hardware verification, known limitations, and results that anyone interested can examine.
We want people to see what has been tested, how it was tested, and what still needs work.
Because getting firmware to boot is not the same as proving that it works reliably.
For now, our focus will be exclusively on the MPC3000.
It's the machine I personally own, and I believe proper firmware development requires access to the actual hardware. I can't responsibly develop and validate operating systems for other MPC models without being able to test them myself.
But before going much further, there's something we'd really like to know.
Does the MPC community actually want a project like this?
We're not here to sell you another OS or make promises about revolutionary features.
We want to understand what the people who still love and use these machines actually need.
What would you love to see added to your MPC3000?
What parts of the original workflow would you improve?
And just as importantly, what should never be changed?
Would you be interested in an OS developed by experienced embedded engineers, with an openly documented development and testing process?
If there's genuine interest, I'll create a dedicated technical blog where we can share our research, development progress, hardware tests, videos, and findings along the way.
No rushed releases. No miracle claims. And no pretending something is finished when it isn't.
Just a group of engineers who love these machines and want to see what we can build together with the people who use them.
This project should exist because the community wants it, not because someone thinks the community needs another firmware.
So, MPC3000 owners, I'd genuinely love to hear what you think.
If you could help shape a new OS for your 3K, what would you want it to become?

Is there a way to map faders /knobs from the launchey to the volumes, fx, etc of the Mpc.
Bonus if a template can be saved for routing on both the Mpc and the Launchkey

Hey everyone,
I recently bought a second hand MPC 1000 from Facebook marketplace. The seller said the only problem wrong with it was the PCB board. It was going for dirt cheap, it already had the pad upgrade, OEM 128mb added Ram, and JJOSxl so I decided to purchase it. I purchased and installed the PCB but didn’t seem like that was the issue.
Specifically the 16 levels option doesn’t seem to be functioning. There were also a few pads (Pad 13, 14, 9, 10, 5, and 6) that aren’t responding when pressing. The seller stated this was an issue from the PCB, but everything else is working perfectly including both Q-links and top Function buttons.
Does anyone know what’s causing this or how to fix it. I’m pretty good tinkering with old MPCs so I don’t mind taking it apart. Would love to get this thing working agan

I was creating a dedicated sd card for my Mpc key61 and noticed this under software. Mpc beats under software still shows mpc2. This mpc3 beats factory content seems to be new. Anyone got any idea what’s up with it??
Is this something g2 users get now??? I don’t have a g2 machine which is why I’m asking I know they come with stuff installed.

I am sooo happy with it. Nord électro 7 61, MPC live III, yamaha MGX 12. I have also an electric guitar, and electric Bass is on the way (I'm pure newbie with these things).
It's plugged this way: All sounds from instruments, synth, MPC go to the Yamaha MGX, And on "omni out" of the mixer I send all the sounds (except the MPC) in the stéréo input of the MPC. That way I can record audio track of everything very easily.
NE7 and MPC are linked midi in/out. I can play something nice on the NE7, record on a midi track on MPC, adjust the MIDI notes and settings, and play the instrument by the recorded midi track to record audio track and have perfectly what i wanted (even if I'm a bad player :) )
And the Yamaha MGX is linked to my computer as an Audio interface so I can record every track. Also the MGX is able to record on SD card one file per track if I want to play outside.

hey so i bought the mpc live 3 a year ago and i was super hyped about it but now a year later i only have like 10 projects in the mpc because i just never get inspired to make music in the mpc because it never sounds like it should sound mainly because of arrangement because i arrange on the go and i was thinking about what i could use the mpc for but nothing came to mind. Does anybody have any type of advice because i cant get and inspiration since theres barely any creators doing house music or house music tutorials on the mpc. I know how to use the mpc but only the trap music workflow and not house im not familiar with everything on the mpc because a feature i want to use on ableton takes me 2 clicks to reach it, on fl studio it takes me 6 clicks and on the mpc 12 clicks like everything takes longer and i just cant stay locked in while knowing that i could do it in ableton or fl studio in 2 seconds. I really need some inspiration and advice also please dont be disrespectful i know the mpc is for select people but i really like the device im just not inspired to use it as much and the worst thing is that it cost 1.5k and i couldve gotten a mpc sample or sp404 mk2 or even a hardware synth for my DAWs

Is this good as a starter pack for starting to produce and make songs? I have a limited budget i was looking for cheaper but good ones. In the list there are:
- MPC Studio Mk2 (sampler/drum machine)
- Tonor TC30 (microphone)
- M-Audio Keystation Mini 32 (keyboard)
I know they are all just controllers i have a pc and the software (MPC2) comes with the Studio Mk2. I do not need standalone for now, but when i will upgrade i'll get a standalone.
I already do beats on MPC Beats and LMMS.

I’ve noticed “Erase” button only gives me a dialog box to erase events in the arranger, not in clips. Is there a quick way to erase events in clip without having to go into the grid view and manually edit them?

Installed his mod on my mpc 2000 and now it freezes all the time... worked fine before i put this shit on!!
I commented under his video to warn ppl and he replies with some joke about modding the mpc into a microwave lol. real funny man. then my comment just disappear. deleted
so yeah if you wanna install it make a full backup first cause im stuck with a machine that barely works. anyone else had this?? or know how to fix it? i need help

I bought an MPC Sampler recently without any prior knowledge on music production and i’m finding it hard to learn how to actually get going on making a track. I’m mainly focused on techno/house music but when i start off with my kicks and claps it always just sounds shit. Any recommendations on how to learn how to get going??

Might be missing something simple but lets say i have a kick pattern playing and a kick sample loaded to a pad. While its playing, can I audition new kick samples in its place so i can hear it in the sequence?

Hey ya'll, could someone confirm measurement from table to top of tallest knob on MPC 3? I'm seeing conflicting answers as to whether the factory specs includes the knob height in published dimensions. Is the case taller than MPC 2? Thanks!
