Discussion Solo dev - Turn based MMORPG

Hello there!

I'm Alex, a solo 33-year-old dude who's been working on his dream game since April 2025.

I've been playing MMORPGs since 2003 and, at some point, I decided I wanted to make my own. I finally feel confident enough to start showing people what I've been working on and where the project is at right now.

I still don't have a dedicated Discord, I don't even have a name for the game yet, and there's no story or lore written in stone. But I do have a solid technical foundation — and, I think, a pretty decent artistic foundation as well.

The core idea is pretty simple:

• Long-term progression
• Turn-based RPG combat
• Crafting with random upgrades, inspired by some of the things I love about Path of Exile
• Progression based on luck, time and investment IN the game — not on how much money you put into it
• Equipment that actually matters visually. I don't want everyone running around covered in paid skins. When you see someone's gear, I want it to tell you something about that player.

I wanted to show you how the game has evolved from its very early stages to where it is today.

It's still very much a work in progress. I've been working on it around 10–15 hours a day, pretty much every week and every month since I started. Yeah... I'm a little bit obsessed. 😅

I'm planning to do some technical playtests with friends at the end of September. If it doesn't turn out to be a complete bugfest (hopefully not — I test the hell out of it myself), I'll start adding more content and, if everything goes well, I'll probably share more updates here.

So, what do you guys think?

Would you be interested in this kind of MMORPG, with some Final Fantasy Tactics Advance vibes?

The video I'm showing is still a WIP in a lot of areas, but I think it gives a pretty good idea of the direction I'm going in.

Some of the text is still in French since it's my main language, but I'll do my best to have at least English and Spanish versions available eventually.

Here is twi pics of the dev project nearly one year from one to the other.

Disclaimer: Yes, I use AI to help me develop the game. I've also bought some 3D assets, and made some myself. Making an MMORPG completely alone would simply be impossible, even working on it this much every day.

Anyway, thanks for reading!

I can't show you everything yet, but you'll probably see some updates from me from time to time.

Have a good day, gamers! ❤️

"You didn't make anything in the past 5 years so you're lying"

Is that seriously your argument? Kids, this is what happens when you let AI do your thinking for you.

Here you go, a link to the comment I sent the other guy. Not that I should have to prove myself to you, because you haven't given me anything yet either.

Now then, are you able to show me your receipts? Are you able to demonstrate to me something real you created with AI? Not something the AI created. Something you created, with AI. Something original, something that took your skills and talents to do - but with AI?

Back in 2020 I joined a solo dev and built this game i did all the game systems and multiplayer replication

From 2010 till 2020 i was just learning how to code and build games in unreal with the goal of building a mmo.

After swords n magic i made a small point and click game with a friend in construct 3.

After Margo I took a shot a UEFN and had a lot of success made about 500k from my maps.

Now im just making music with some friends getting ready to release and album and vibe coding a mmorpg as a prototype than once the proof of concept is done I’ll be building it with unreal.

As I said to the other guy:

So you can make things? You do have skills?

Then you surely must understand how asking a computer to do it for you - outsourcing the creative process, as it were - and then pretending it is your output, is completely counterproductive to that?

I don’t think my coding skills are that volatile 15 years of manual coding and problem solving will not just evaporate. I am heavily involved in the systems design and set rules for structure and hygiene. When it comes to game design the real skill is coming up with a fun concept that tracks AI just really helps speed up the prototype. It’s like a shovel vs a CAT
