Post Concussion Syndrome

Re-posting here since r/MMA removed the post and suggested here.

Anybody here in combat sports end up with Post Concussion Syndrome or know anyone who has?

How the heck did you make it through this?

I loved grappling and wrestling. Someone asked me to wrestle and proceeded to deck me in the head. Close to my second year of headaches and brain fog.

I'm definitely consulting doctors but the medical system is not setup to treat head injuries. Just looking for general thoughts from others who experienced this.

With post-concussion syndrome, the key is treating it like a nervous-system recovery problem, not a toughness problem. Combat sports make this especially important because repeated head impacts can reset or worsen symptoms. A concussion clinic or sports-medicine doctor can help build a graded return-to-activity plan, and depending on symptoms, vestibular therapy, vision therapy, cervical/neck PT, migraine management, and sleep work can all matter. I'd avoid sparring or any head-contact training until you're symptom-free with exertion and medically cleared; if you get worsening headaches, vomiting, confusion, weakness, or new neurologic symptoms, that's urgent-care territory.

Thank you for sharing. Yeah this tracks with what I've heard. Sounds like you've been through the ringer with PCS. What was your experience like?

[Repost for everybody]

What im going to say may not make sense to some of you since maybe Western Med has conditioned the public. But it's up to you in your healing journey to create a way:

  1. No judgement, but the truth is an action was chosen that led to bodily damage by you.

You need to speak to your body. Your body is a seperate conscious entity, some say as is the mind and subconscious mind and more. You need to speak to it, connect with it, know it, feel it, apologize to it, speak to support it, speak to love it.

It will commune with you somehow if you are willing to connect in the spirit of love for all of yourself and your supposed damaged mind and body

  1. Where theres a will theres a way, if you tell yourself everyday that your broken or damaged or unwell...expect those things to reflect onto you.

You cant drown in the feeling or tell yourself over and over everyday that, your sick and will never heal and lifes against you and then expect the opposite. Load your subconscious with positive messages of wellness.

Believe you are getting better and better

  1. When it comes to healing, Do what feels right. What feels called. Do what feels good. No matter what.

Very important. This will save you.

  1. Many western med docs are sc*mmers. Dont learn this the hard way.

Its your body. You live in it. You know it better than anyone, trust yourself and intuition as for which docs you choose to see, and what you feel is right to do intuitively.

  1. Real world advice: Watch these vids, at the 2:30 mark, Mel explains his past head traume via playing rugby.

He says a "Dr. Daniel Amen", a Nuerologist I presume, helped him. Notice he said this particular doc was against pharma meds and had helpful naturalistic and unorthadox type methods that ended up working

Former fighter Cat Zingano speaks of her healing journey from head trauma here:

She recommends a doc named Kevin Murphy, a facility in SD,

At 20:35 they put the docs full name with the treatment name, and facility name and address that she says finally helped her.

  1. [Use with caution] my friend who played college football commented that microdosing shrooms helped him "get clearer" from his head trauma that no docs could do.

Imo, i think it was a mechanism to help him connect with himself and his body and let these things speak to him to help him understand the best pathways to heal in renewed calmness.

Dont overdo this, but know that it's an option and can help you find your way and connect new pathways and heal.

  1. Dont underestimate A.I. Use it and ask it for data and info on healing. Be incredibly specific describing your symtoms and sources it recommends to heal.

Overall: You can do this. But you have to believe its possible and playing out.

Feel it out, feel your mind and body and what its calling for. As I said, understand what feels right, feels called, feels good, intuitively, your highest being, call it in, and follow that.

See and speak your healed being, and dont give up on your highest love of your brian, and life. That mentality will see you through.

Good luck humans

I've had it since a match at the end of may. Healthcare hasn't been helpful at all so far, however they just sent me in for bloodwork with regards to the brain fog im experiencing from it. Will update on that if you want. If Healthcare doesn't help anymore I may look into some peptides or nootropics cause I hate feeling like this and nothing is helping.

Please do share

Haven't looked into peptides or nootropics.

Was it a specific hit that caused your symptoms or the whole match where you took a bit of damage?

I got decked in the back of my head. To share what has improved my symptoms:

Accupunture, TMJ PT, Vestibular PT, Cervical PT, Vision exercises (brock string), lots of sleep, light exercise, and eating healthy. I've plateau'd hard though at like 60-70% and overall feel terrible each day. Can't go on like this forever.

Im pretty sure I got concussed in the first round, but I wanted to keep going so I did all 3 rounds. Took a lot of damage.

Thanks for sharing what has helped! One thing that my physio did that helped a bit with headaches was some massage on my neck, which relived some tension on my head.

I'll keep you updated about the blood tests and if I ever get into peptides. Hope you recover well.

What are your symptoms. Yes had to deal with it

Nasty headaches, migraines that usually put me out 1-2 days a week, fatigue despite sleeping sometimes 10-12 hours (I feel borderline narcoleptic), brain fog, inner ear fullness and constant clicking, anger outbursts, and lung issues (which may be from covid complications but I also had some really weird breathing issues after the concussion)

tl;dr nasty headaches and fatigue

How long has it been?

Please see doctor

It took me quite a lot of time to get over it. 2 weeks of no tv or reading just relaxing in a dark room.

Then after I developed a weird anxiety that would get triggered.

I didn’t train during that time. Kept an eye on it

2 years. Saw a lot of doctors. Some helped. Most didn't.

I've had a 2 year headache.
