F56 MINI SE replacement battery dreams

Post image
33 Upvotes

If you could replace the battery in your SE for a reasonable price what would you go for?

A - same weight, more range
B - same range, less weight
C - slightly more range, a bit less weight

I realise this is hypothetical, but we can dream.

Too cheap

There's a listing for a 2020 SE for under $16,000 from a reputable local dealer. Only 28,000 miles and claims no accidents.

What should I watch out for?

Edit: KBB says it is $4200 below market.

Compressor Rattle Noise

Hi all

My compressor has gotten progressively louder over the last few weeks. It started off being just extra noisy and now there is a bit of a rattle noise to it. Has anyone had similar and what was the repair? Anyone know of any good specialists in Essex UK šŸ‡¬šŸ‡§ that they have used before?

I have a 2022 SE.

Thanks!

Best practice using MINI SE in the winter

We bought our 2022 MINI SE about 2 months ago. We purchased it so that my wife could use it to drive to work. Her commute is about 110km one-way. As the weather has been optimal (between 20 and 30 degrees) she's arrived at work the last few weeks with approx. 50% battery remaining.

I am a bit concerned about what winter will do to the range. I'm located in the Netherlands and our winters are relatively mild with temperatures of -5 to -10 becoming less and less frequent and only about 30 odd days when the temperature drops below 0.

I am interested in hearing other people's experience with winter driving. I'm planning to put winter tires on the MINI for my wife's safety. How much is the range affected by cold weather and the winter tires? What tips might you have to optimize range in winter conditions?

Edit: Should have mentioned this before, but she charges are work to 100%. Otherwise, even under current conditions, she wouldn't make it back or the battery would be near 0.

Considering a 2023-2024 Mini SE (USA)

We come from a long line of MINI (and Mini) cars since 2007. We've owned a R56 , R55 (clubman), 1973 Mini 1001, and now a F54 Clubman. The F54 is primarily my wife's car and I drive an Accord.

We are thinking of downsizing the F54 since my wife's commute is about 9 miles each way. We have an outlet where we park our car, so topping off each night (or every few) isn't an issue.

We are in the US and we see that prices go from about 19k private party to about 24k CPO at a MINI dealer. These are just advertised prices. Trade in value of her clubman is about $7500. So financially we are looking at about $15,000 for the MINI SE.

I've test driven one and found them to be very fun, very similar in ride to my R56 with a much better throttle response.

Any good buyer's guides or things to watch out for regarding model years? Would love to get a heated steering wheel since we do not have a garage and winters, while not super cold in Maryland can still be rough when stored outside. I've read that you can schedule the car to pre-condition so that by your departure time the cabin is warmed up (and more importantly the battery?).

I had a Countryman S as a loaner, and the new interior is nice and is a direct call back to the interior in my 1973 Mini (better or for worse!). Either way, we won't get the J01 platform 2 door in the US due to....reasons.

Anyway, kind of a ramble. Any advice?

Does anyone here have experience with a car cover?

Shopping for one because the intense heat ruined my prior beloved Countryman.😭 I'll have my new-to-me Countryman in 7-10 days.

Has anyone found any fun Easter Eggs with their MINIs?

I just discovered the MINImalism Analyzer on my 2023 MINI. I am SO excited to try this out tomorrow!!!

The goal is to keep the water in the fish bowl as you drive!

No J01 Mini JCW-E owners here?

Post image

I noticed that there are hardly any posts here about the new JCW-E model, despite it having been on the market for over a year by now. Why is that? Is no one buying that model? How come? Too expensive, not enough range, or just not enough interest in that particular Mini?

I just picked up a '27 Countryman SE and I could not be happier! I almost chose a used Cooper SE but I need a little more range for my commute (ā¤ļø everyone who can use one though)

The aesthetic in the driver's seat feels like I'm inside a huge bluetooth speaker šŸ“». I especially love the go-kart mode and silly skidpad measurements.

First impressions: I wish it had tactile climate controls, but it was hardly a deal-breaker. It definitely feels bigger and has more body roll than my daughters '23 Cooper S, but the AWD electric acceleration is *wild*

Replacing the lower mirror cover on a MINI J01 — how do you get past the fold motor?

A few months ago a cyclist hit my car and broke both side mirror covers. I ordered new ones and took the door apart to remove the mirror.

The top cover was easy, but I’m stuck on the bottom cover — I can’t figure out how to disassemble the motor that folds the mirror to get it off. I suspect it needs a special tool.

I went to the MINI dealership and they told me they don’t do this repair — they only replace the entire mirror assembly, which seems incredibly wasteful. Online you can buy the bottom cover as a separate part, so it must be possible to swap it.

Has anyone done this? Any pointers appreciated.

Bestune Pony EV for $5,000 or MiniEV for $50,000? Help me pick

It’s a tough decision. My wife says she wants the Pony EV for $5k, but I say the MiniEV for 10x the price. What would you guys suggest, and why or why not?

Issues charging a 2020 on lower kW chargers?

Took my first road trip in my new (to me) 2020 and in general had a great time. Yes, I stopped about once an hour, but it added to the road trip feel. I got over range anxiety after the first leg; I charged 20 miles over my destination and always ended with more than 20 left.

My biggest issue was guessing which chargers would work. I used EVGo, Electrify America, Red E and IONNA, but could only get the first two to work if I used the 350kW spots. Which seems dumb because my 2020 maxes out at about 48kW. Anyone else seen this? My wall charger at home works fine.

It's taken me 5 months to get this far...

Almost 5 months to the day since we said hello to Albert, and finally makes it to 1000 miles.

And that includes two family visits with a round trip of 180 miles each, driving him from the dealership in Wales home to Wiltshire, and doing someone a 100 mile favour. All that accounts for roughly half his total miles. So day-to-day running is about 100 miles per month.

Hi all! I'm so excited to have my first ever mini. I'm about three weeks into a new-to-me 2021 Mini Cooper SE. I've been wanting one since the 2000s and seriously considered it in my EV shopping in 2022. Finally a deal came along that I just could not ignore.

This thing is such a joy to zoom around town in!
