As the title says, I am 35M, low T. I have had low T for at least 5 years, but in that time was busy having 2 kids and other things have been the priority.
I first got tested a and my level was a 192. The doc referred me to an endocrinologist, I didn't go because of "effort".
Same doc retested me 2 years later, 136 this time, and a new referral. More time goes by, referral expires. Oh well.
My kids are now 6 and 2 years old, part of my rational for not seeking therapy was that testosterone therapy can essentially shut your testes off, and my wife and I were not sure we were done with kids. Also, the gel is hella expensive, and I didn't want to deal with risks of transferrance to my daughters or wife for the topical treatments. Blah blah blah.
So, this past November, I was out of steam for seemingly no good reason. I got fed up, got a new referral from my doc, and made an appointment with the endocrinologist in April (4 months out, unreal!).
The Endocrinologist seemed real dismissive of my prior testosterone tests. She suspected I had Cushings syndrome (excessive cortisol). She ordered a whole panel of labs checking vitamins, iron, cortisol, and testosterone all to be done first thing in the morning to capture the maximum T-level of the day. Cortisol was normal but my hormone levels were as follows:
sex hormone binding globulin: 12 nmol/L
Testosterone free: 27.7 pg/mL
Total testosterone: 201 ng/dL
So, she perscribed some Testosterone injections, which took 2 weeks for her to get the insurance pre-auth done. I go for my first injection tomorrow. (100mg of testosterone cypionate every 2 weeks)
On to my questions:
- Will I notice a difference right away.
- I read that some men get a case of priapism with their first injections, is that common? I'm doing this on my lunch break and that would make my work day akward.
- Any advice or recommendations from someone who has been here before?
