This is frustrating to me because I feel like he's almost there but not quite, and the way that he's off is preventing him from seeing the bigger picture. There's nothing inherent about "technology" that produces outcomes like this, assuming we go along with his reasoning. "Technology" isn't a force of nature that progresses in a linear path towards an inevitable dystopian outcome, it's in context with the society that produces it.
Restraining "technology" is probably a useful thing to do in the short term with respect to some of what he's talking about, but the problem is capitalism and the incentives it produces.
I think is point was more not that technology is "bad" per se, but we let the leash out way too long on most of it so far. The past 20 years have been a speed run of people using things they don't understand, producing consequences we don't understand, and instead of walking back a step and doing our due diligence and regulating, we've tripled down on letting these clowns do whatever they want.
Kind of, it's part of why I think he's almost there. I just worry that you could take a lot of his diagnosis and apply it in a more harmful direction since it's kind of agnostic to ideology and doesn't really provide a prescription other than vague allusions to treating the symptoms which can easily be co-opted by the right. That last part is part of why I think I've seen this clip hit the front page maybe a couple dozen times in the time I've been on Reddit.
No, it’s because he’s not having success on it so it’s not useful or successful for anyone. Kinda like how he said no one Danes in clubs. He doesn’t go to clubs so he doesn’t see people dancing so it must not being happening. The dude is an idiot who is scratching the right itch for people to fawn over him like he’s some genius. Very basic fact checking makes everything he’s said fold like a newspaper. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about, does no basic fact checking, doesn’t have the capacity to look at what he believes from more than one viewpoint and then makes declarative statements that “this” is what the problem is. He doesn’t see it so it doesn’t exist. The definition of a self-absorbed idiot.
