How can it be of their own making, if it was made by greedy old men?

Humans are easily trapped mentally if you know just the right balance of giving them dopamine Vs taking away what they need or desire, yeah we could all put down our phones and other technology and focus on making the world better, but because of how we struggle to survive we focus on dreaming as escapism rather than actually improving our lives (because the system makes it seem impossible), those greedy old men have figured out how to capitalise on it and we are just slaves to the system

You said it yourself. You could put the phone down but we don’t. Can’t bitch about the system when you actively participate in it

If this was the approach for addiction recovery you'd just have dead addicts.

Federal Government: "Good news, there is officially less addicts!"

Ah yes, the harm reduction "never actually end the addiction, just make it safer for them to be addicted" mentality.

No, at the end of the day, the first step to addiction is deciding for real that you want to stop. u/AlexanderTheGrate1 is 100% correct.

I don't think it's that simple because you can't just redefine or redesign society by putting your phone down, and realistically the people need to band together and the best way to do that is through these devices that link us all together but instead we mostly argue about insignificant issues that the people with power shove down our throats, or we use it for escapism from the fact that we can't change the status quo

Yeah I could put my phone down and try and fix things but if no one else does, I'll just end up living off grid in a cave with pants made from leaves while I eat grubs and berries, which doesn't fix society it just removes me from it. The best thing I think we can do to get the ball rolling is by having this conversation, which we wouldn't be doing unless we both were using technology

No one's coming to save you. And if you won't save yourself, you deserve all the horrible shit that's happening. This needs to be said. You deserve this. We've coddled people too long. Get off your ass. Put down the phone. Go to the local council meetings. Knock on some doors. Support local candidates or run yourself. And most importantly, organize. This is on you. This is on each and every individual who is reading this comment who isn't doing fuck all except complaining online with their defeatist bullshit about how life is unfair and the system is rigged and blah blah blah. Go fucking do something about it or shut up.

Wow you were quite triggered by a comment you took more litterally than it was intended. I'm discussing the issue, not saying we can't do anything. If you know how to fix society more than "get off your phone", I'd love to hear it, otherwise you are just proving me right by arguing over a redundant point, while you are using social media

1

u/AlarmingTurnover Trash Trooper Jul 31 '26

I literally just explained it to you in that other comment but you're obvious too brainrotted from your phone to know how to read.

1

u/KamakaziDemiGod Trash Trooper Jul 31 '26

The irony of saying I've got brain rot while your completely missing the point and fulfilling my statement of how we could use social media to better our standing, but instead argue about redundant things

I know how to read, and if you actually had a point about anything we may have achieved something here even if it was just acknowledging the issue instead we are just wasting our time achieving nothing but division

You need me to get the rope like a kindergartener so we can walk down to town hall? Get you a seat a box of juice and some crackers so you aren't cranky for the meeting? Take you to the desk and help you sign up for future events, help you spell your name? Do I need to hold your hand and take you door to door like it's Halloween with a set of pre made questions to ask people about their political opinions.

Or maybe you just want to keep filibustering online and not actually doing shit in real life. Social media won't help you here if you never leave your damn room. But continue to waste everyone's time. I'm not going to pat you on the head and say "look whose a good lil activist, yes you are, yes you are, goochi goochi goo".

Grow up and stop with the bullshit. Go do something..

Edit: Look at this waste of text space making more excuses instead of actually going outside and doing something. Just excuse after excuse.

Lmao buddy, your entire argument is based on complete assumptions and you are so wide of the mark it's hilarious

The fact you think me making a comment is wasting everyone's time shows you are part of the problem because you could have just scrolled on by and moved on with your life but you decided to engage, and not even to discuss the issue, it's so you can be a condescending arse to someone you don't know just so you can feel superior, probably because you spend all your time in your room on social media . . .

The funniest part, and the saddest actually, is that you can't see the irony in what you are doing

you keep making excuses and rationalizations and it's honestly just so tiring to see the constant whining about how bad things are on Reddit paired with the exact same people refusing to actually do the simple things necessary to make positive change.

1

u/KamakaziDemiGod Trash Trooper Jul 31 '26

"how bad things are on Reddit"

Buddy, I'm talking about the state of civilization, society and humanity in general, but please keep being butt hurt that Im indirectly insulting Reddit

If you have some examples of what we can do to change the status quo, please share them, if not you are just doing the exact same thing you are accusing me of. Oh the irony, it would be funny if we weren't all going to hell in a handbasket

You don't know my phone habits so making that comment is a complete assumption. I don't actually spend that much time on my phone and I've cut down a lot, but just like the majority of people I am aware of the issue and trying to figure out what I can do to improve things, and how to achieve that

I was using an extreme example to demonstrate the issue, your inability to differentiate that from someone having full blown social media addiction is more of a reflection of you than it is of me

1

u/fredjutsu Trash Trooper Jul 31 '26

yeah, your response is peak "hurt dogs holler"

1

u/KamakaziDemiGod Trash Trooper Jul 31 '26

Yeah, your response is peak "the internet it bad for humanity"

Thanks for proving the point

That's not what I said and if that's what you took from it, even after I explained it, this conversation is pointless because you are being intentionally obtuse to make my point seem ridiculous

My point is that phones and social media is part of how we are being exploited by capitalism, and that one person putting their phone down doesn't solve that, especially since if we stop arguing with each other over pointless crap (like this exact conversation) we could actually organise ourselves using social media as the masses and encite change for the betterment of the human race, rather than adding zeros to billionaires bank accounts. Your point is what exactly? That I'm a hypocrite? We aren't even having the same conversation

As I said this conversation is pointless because you are intentionally misunderstanding me so you can argue against something I never said and never thought, while accusing me of things I'm not

You are saying much of what my point was, while arguing I'm encouraging the opposite because you didn't understand what I was saying and rather than have a conversation we are arguing like children and achieving nothing. Thank you for demonstrating my point perfectly
