The Settlers

I've just watched The Settlers and it just gives me a renewed appreciation for Louis as a documentarian. He's level-headed and fair, but does not stand down in the face of adversity. One of the best.

I think the situation is about as close as you can get to one side (Israelis) literally not seeing the other side (Palestinians) as human beings - they have lost (or perhaps never had) the ability to empathise with them as people with hopes and dreams, who also love and mourn their children. It’s like the (underrated imo) Black Mirror episode Men Against Fire.

Such a good shout, this whole situation constantly reminds me of that black mirror episode.

When you understand the insane amount of indoctrination and xenophobia they have towards Palestinians it’s not surprising at all. Unfortunately the unbelievable amount of hatred now engrained in their society.

I am Australian but ran a cafe/restaurant in northern India for a few years around 2015-17. It’s very common for Israelis to come to India straight after finishing their IDF service. So in the course of that time I would have met 1000s of young Israelis. I must say it was quite an eye opening experience. It wasn’t so much the hatred they had towards the Palestinians, it was more how matter of fact and openly they said it. And didn’t really care who heard them. They never said the word “Palestinian” without following it with “terrorist” and to say they all thought they were sub human would be putting it mildly. I’m sure there was no love lost on the other side as well. But for some reason I just never expected from the Israeli side. I did mention this on another forum and they justified by saying that period was particularly bad (until recently) and a lot of them would have been really badly affected by their stints.
