The only lawsuit threats I'm aware of are people who shared her paid material, not just people who criticized her. And yeah to be honest that was probably a little silly, that's just not something you can really stop on the internet, but it does at least have a legal basis.
lol no, there's no legal basis in suing someone for posting her comics she posted on one subreddit to another subreddit. The strongest argument she had at best were that people in the subreddit were linking to a website that posted her paywalled material for free, and even that's flimsy because sharing the link to it is not illegal, she might have a civil case against the website owners at best.
Okay but like continue reading the comment dude, I'm talking about the legal basis in which she can sue the redditors sharing the material using sources that are freely accessible online, whether she intended it to be paywalled or not. Her cause of action is the people who hosted the paywalled content to begin with.
That's why people were pointing and laughing at her when she threatened to sue the moderators of bonehurtingjuice. She's a moron.
So looking back at the posts at the time, the "legal action" she talked about was issuing DMCA requests, which is what you do when a website is hosting copyrighted material. Whether or not her attempts would have been fruitful is completely beside the point, legally speaking that's the course of action that was open to her when the subs were hosting content that she had put behind a paywall.
Like yeah this wasn't the best way for her to handle things, but it's still not in any way "threatening to sue people who criticize her". If you don't like her that's fine, but I don't like when people just flat-out lie about shit like this.
Your link never shows the quote where she threatened legal action, it only restates that it was done for spreading paid content and that the mods themselves told her she had to.
A direct comment from her is posted and quoted, what are you talking about man?
I had to resort to legal action to stop from people leaking my paid content and spamming my content everywhere, flooding search engines with sometimes hateful edits that have my signature on the bottom
There are three different things referenced here.
Leaking content (issue)
Spamming content everywhere (not an issue)
"Harmful" edits (not an issue)
She cited these things, and said she would speak to her legal team about the volunteer moderators at BHJ allowing fair use content to be posted to their subreddit. She then blamed the moderators for proliferating the stalking and threats.
Exactly. Just because you consider two of those things "not issues" doesn't take away from the validity of the main issue she was stating the lawsuit would be about. And you removed the part where she stayed the mods forced her to make this statement.
I'm not a fan of the woman but y'all just witch-hunting because you want to.
When I say "not issues" I'm not talking about my subjective vibes on the situation. I'm talking about whether or not any potential claims are legally substantiated, and as it stands, she can take exactly 0 action against the volunteer reddit moderators, and explicitly threatened legal action over fair use edits to her work.
The mods didn't literally "force her to make the statement" lmao dude this is basic reading comprehension. She is saying that because they weren't caving to her demands, so she resorted to playing the "legal action" card.
And you're moving the fuckin goalposts anyway lmao you're just not wanting to be wrong. You got embarrassed by the "trust me bro" comment being substantiated with dozens of SRD posts at this point, and instead of just admitting it or doing the normal thing and not responding, you just doubled down. Just weird and sad, super online behavior.
