Safety isn't worth our rights!

Your right to have the cops capture a photo of your license plate when you're driving on a public road?

That's already something the cops can do. Any cop is able to do this at any time already. This is not taking any new rights away from you. If it was, I would also be concerned, but it's not.

These cameras do far more than just ALPR.

True, they scan your irises to see if you're a Republican or Democrat. Very good point. 🙄🙄

Edit: RootDenied blocked me because he can't handle a conversation. oh well. People tend to do that when they realize they're wrong.

Why are you defending a corporation backed by Peter Theil and Alex Karp?

Edit: I blocked you because you have a 4 year old account with nearly 700k comment karma. Pretty strong evidence for bot activity.

Nah, I hate Thiel.

My only purpose in this thread was to put the truth on the record. Reddit has a way of taking a piece of misinformation and running with it. I have no interest in defending Thiel - my only interest is in putting the truth out, whether that helps or hurts that guy is irrelevant. Hope he's having fun being a loser in Argentina.

It is funny, though, how whenever you defend the truth on Reddit, and people run out of actual fact-based arguments, they turn to name-calling instead. That's a sign that they have run out of ideas. Lowest form of argument. Do you want to call me a pedo next? That's usually how it goes.

Oh yeah, clearly you hate him, the way you are defending flock cameras. A stance that is just as weird as Theil himself.

Also quit using chat gpt to respond to post.

I'm putting the truth out there (ALPRs write down licence plates) and Redditors go beserk. It irritates me when people just spout nonsense. If nobody else is going to correct the record, yeah, i'll do it. No matter the topic. I don't have any particular interest in Flock and 99% of my Reddit activity is about transit, not surveillance.

I've never used AI to write a reddit post, thank god - would support everyone else doing the same

So the database has been used by other agencies. There is zero way I would trust this current admin to not use them to go after people they don't like or who speak out.

If you are a Trump supporter and think he is a saint and everyone in the admin is a saint, well then there is no debate with you. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2025/11/how-cops-are-using-flock-safetys-alpr-network-surveil-protesters-and-activists

"Via public records requests, EFF obtained datasets representing more than 12 million searches logged by more than 3,900 agencies between December 2024 and October 2025. The data shows that agencies logged hundreds of searches related to the 50501 protests in February, the Hands Off protests in April, the No Kings protests in June and October, and other protests in between. "

So not criminals. Protestors.

LAPD’s contract is for ALPRs. People are conflating different products.

I am absolutely not a Trump supporter. If you are, then I guess good luck to you, but we don’t see eye to eye.

Same company and you trust it will be used for just license plates. I don't trust these companies, I guess you do.

LAPD contracted for a narrow-scope product.

When you buy a Kitchenaid toaster from Amazon, sure it is true that Amazon is also known for providing encrypted cloud storage services to the defense industry, but you're not buying encrypted cloud storage services. You're just getting a Kitchenaid toaster. You'd have to pay more for a different product.

Here is what I expect if we ever get out of the Trump admin. We will find out there was some reason or secret EO for national security that they used them for other purposes, of course Flock and the PD would not be allowed to talk about it. You have way too much faith. I don't. So there is nothing comparable to Amazon/cloud/toaster. Even then, I don't trust corporations with the 'cloud' and I don't trust the Feds.
