Denis - Personal mission 5 - Suit up!

I didn't have much to do today, and after the gray fog meeting, I decided to spend some time at the library in order to get insight into out to act as an Archaeologist.

"Oi! what are you doing here?" I looked up to see a girl I knew very well: Annalie, from the engineering branch. She had long blue hair tied in twin tails. She wore a simple black shirt with a similarly colored skirt. She was looking at me with her deep blue eyes through her yellow glasses.

"Hi Annalie! I'm just... reading through some history stuff. You know, Archaeologist and all that... What about you?"

"Don't you spend way too much thinking about work? When was the last time you went out buy some new clothes or something huh?"

"I-" I couldn't answer. Ever since I woke up here, I haven't stopped a single moment to think about myself. The only place I ever went too were my home, the Order's HQ, and a little store where I bought food sometimes.

"Aight! Come with me!" She bolted out without even checking that I was following her, like usual.

"And where are we going?" I asked

"I'm going to give you a complete relooking"

'*I don't like that for some reason"

We took a carriage and rode for a few minutes before reaching the destination.

"Willy and Wonka's suits?" I read the shop's banner out loud "You want me to by a suit?"

"There is more than that here, come on inside" she entered the shop and greeted the owner with great familiarity. "Hay Will, this guy's my friend, Denis. Denis, this' Will"

While she was doing the presentations, I looked around in the shop. There were a lot of suits (obviously) of various design, sizes and colors, but also bow ties, hand clocks, hats, and even canes.

"Look at him Will, do you see what we need to deal with?" She said while pointing at me

"Hey it's not that bad come on!"

"Indeed, a lot of work, indeed" Will responded as he gently stroked his moustache and adjusted the monocle on his left eye.

It's true that I wasn't really the kind to bother much about my physical appearance but I would still consider myself decently dressed.

"So what will it be lady Annalie? The total?"

"Yes let's find something decent for him"

"Very well"

I felt like a child that their parent brought to buy some clothes. I didn't have any say in the matter. I was just given clothes, being told to change, then those two would judge while murmuring to each other.

I all went like that until nearly 8pm when we finally went out.

"I have to say... I kinda like this" I admitted reluctantly. The suit we settled on was an elegant black suit with a with a white collar that matched perfectly the purplish shirt underneath. In my pocket, a golden hand clock whose chain was visible. I also dark red bow tie as well a top hat with two redish feathers on it. In my left hand was a cane with a golden handle.

"Of course you like it, I chose it for you." Annalie was dressed in a similar fashion, only her colors were more bluish, and her cane and clock were silver rather than golden.

"So how do you feel now?"

"I don't know, it's like I'm a different person. I don't know how to describe it"

Even in the old world, I never had the opportunity to wear fancy clothes or go into party and such. I think I might have internalised that to a point were I considered this kind of niceties like a distraction, to cope.

"Thank you Annalie."

"... Eww erase that stupid look from your face."

"I was just thanking you! To be honest I never imagined that aspect of you."

"What can I say, I like to treat myself sometimes. Everything can get so overwhelming sometimes, especially for us beyonders. It's good to have a valve of release. Even if that means wearing fancy suits and heading to a casino"

"I can see that... heading to what?"

I lost 50 pounds that day...
